This is the most blogging I have done since joining Alopecia World. I am getting very, very tired of carefully styling my hair to hide my "spots". I am a very active person. I run, bike, and I swim almost daily. That means that I have to "do" my hair every day. I am sick of it. I am thinking of getting a wig. Any words of wisdom?

I started wearing a wig when my alopecia got to difficult to hide but I found it really difficult to get on with as like you I'm really sporty. I was always terrified of running fast incase it blew off and swimming in a wig isn't very practical as you can't tie them up.
In the end I thought 's*d it' and got rid of the wig and wear my bald head with pride - I've never felt more confident and I can enjoy my sports with out any worries - Good luck whatever you try.

If you do decide on a wig - a vacum wig will be much more sucure whilst your running about but they are so much more expensive!

I'm with you, Emily and Petra! Life is too short, and we can't let our baldness stop us from enjoying it to the fullest. You may have already seen these two videos, but here I am doing just that: http://www.alopeciaworld.net/video/in-the-mood

Thanks Petra, Emily and Mary. If I buzz my hair off, I sure won't wear a wig when I am working out etc. I already wear either a hat or scarf when running (and a scarf under my bike helmet) I also scuba dive and hair just gets in the way there too! I am considering a wig for social occasions and going out with my husband. I would rather spend my money on scuba gear than an expensive vacum wig!

Margaret, I checked out the sahalie.com site and really like the buff scarf. They come in so many different colors and patterns. I am thinking of investing in a couple.
Thanks,
Anne

Anne I think they have more on the site it self not the catalog that I saw it in. I would just google buff. :) I would forward the link but I don't think we are can post sites on here. I forgot that the first time! :) Have a good weekend! The snow is finally melting here in NY.

Anne - have you seen my photos from dive trips? I love the convenience of diving with no hair. I'm instantly dry after dives, and wetsuits go on so easily!

I tried on my first wigs today and really had fun. I looked great in several styles I tried on. They were light weight and very comfortable. I am going to take my husband with me to see what they look like and I may get one for those days when I don't want to wear a hat or scarf. My husband really liked the buff scarfs I showed him from the sahalie.com site also. They had some REALLY cute patterns. I will probably get one or two of those also. I am not sure at this time whether or not I will buzz my hair off. There is enough so that it would look cute peeking out from under a scarf or hat.

Mary, do I have to "friend" you in order to see your dive pictures? I would really like to see them. I dive in the Sea of Cortez out of San Carlos, Mexico. There are wonderful dive sites there. It was cold in January when I dove and I wore a hooded vest under my wetsuit for added warmth. I am hoping to dive out of Key Largo in Florida this next November.

Glad you like them, Anne. Did you see my video "Grouper Buddy"? It's on YouTube and AW.
