so far i have a 4inch by 4inch bald patch on the left of my head and a coin sized one on the right but for the last few days iv been really tender on the top of my head.....like iv been bashed hard on the head and i had this before my hair fell out on the sides so it looks like i might not get away with wearing my thick hairband much longer and have to just shave it.i think shaving might help me feel more in control somehow.
the only thing i don't get about alopecia is every time before and during a patch appearing i get really really tired....iv looked at all the info i can find and cant find any connection between alopecia and tiredness....does anyone else suffer with this?

thankyou lily for your reply too,iv had thyroid, iron and blood sugar tests done and they all came back fine x

I went from hairbands to hats....and then when it was getting really bad...I made the tearful decision to shave my head one cold stormy January day...my best Friend was my hairdresser so my sister and I went to her home and her 2 year old twins sat on my lap as she shaved me....after we were done the kids started rubbing my head and my Friend told me to go out and
buy some red lipstick cause I looked hot bald!! What a stress reliever that was for me...I would get so upset every time I looked in the mirror to see the ugly patches and would cry everytime I showered cause my hair would come out in clumps. I still shampoo and condition my scalp today...just a natural thing for me to do...lol although I don't have the expense of hair products anymore!!

Hi, Laura,
My hair started falling out in April of 2011 and I had similar symptoms. The extreme tenderness, I'm sorry to say, does seem to be a prelude to hair loss. I also was very tired. I think having the thyroid checked is excellent advise, You also may want to have a complete blood check up. My endocrinologist found very low levels of iron and vitamin d, (as well as early signs of Hashimoto Thyroiditis) which all can cause fatigue. It certainly is a frustrating condition when it's difficult to find definitive science explaining what's going on, and what to expect. I've found more info from these blogs and peoples' stories than anywhere!

You might be having thyroid, get tested. Thyroid is also an autoimmunity disease like alopecia

i was always tired along with my bald spot getting bigger abd returning to its normal size and got my thyroid tested and it came back perfectly fine, however... they did find I have low iron and thats why i was feeling tired,.. maybe that could be the problem
