Recently, I came across a story about women shaving their heads in response to the election results, referring to it as the “4B movement.” This action, while bold, left me with an uncomfortable feeling. This post is not meant to be political but to discuss the message being sent about bald women.
It made me wonder: does this movement suggest that a woman’s beauty or desirability is tied to having hair?

I don't follow a lot of American politics (I'm in Australia) but this one did make the dinner table at our house. So we are heading off on holidays soon and my first thought is, "great now when I'm overseas everyone will be looking at me as if I'm making a political statement". This makes me very uncomfortable (note: I don't wear wigs). It appears that the 4B movement believes hair is a big part of what makes a woman desirable. The movement takes something away from those who struggle with hair loss, it is a real kick in the guts.
Withholding sex from men & shaving their heads so men will find them repulsive as a punishment for a man's political affiliation is their right. The irony is they are practicing birth control by means of abstinence which is a right wing belief and abstinence reduces unwanted pregnancy & the need for abortion. Having no hair does give one time to think differently abt life.
My personal thought... who cares. Things can have dual meaning. Having alopecia does not require people to use baldness or lack of hair to be looked at only through the eyes of alopecians. The rainbow for instance - some use it to represent their sexuality or whatever, where I look at it as a religious sign. Let them do them, and you do you. If you don't see yourself in them and what they are doing then, you aren't them and they aren't us. I've got more important and bigger issues to hit head on, then some women/men or whoever shaving their heads and what it represents. Once again this is my opinion, we are all different. I can't take away from your experience or feelings, it is what makes you uniquely you. I don't see 'me' in what they are doing. I just don't.
I see.your point Vicki.
