This was the actual joke that Chris Rock made:

I saw that and thought it was staged!  Im not an advocate for violence, but, AA, AT and AU are disorders that no one seems to take seriously, people who dont have it dont understand the humiliation it feels to have it, although it's not contagious and really doesnt do any harm, it still hurts knowing you have it.  Maybe Chris will learn a lesson about being a little compassionate, maybe Hollywood will share a spotlight on it and we can get more research and help.  There are many many actors in Hollywood with this disorder, Im sure they will speak out in support of Will.  I have to give it to him for supporting his wife, and putting Chris in check for using his wife and disorder for the butt of a joke..

Will Smith just stood up to every bully there was that picked on someone with alopecia. I hope this brings more attention/education to AA and the seriousness of the disease. Will Smith is my hero.

I agree with everything Jade and dreamscometrue have said. It is a devastating and humiliating disease - it doesn’t have to be - societal norms have made it this way. Will Smith is my hero too. ❤️

It was a low blow but regardless he shouldn’t have used violence. Use your words!

Stupid, weak, and totally uncalled for. Not a good look for black men, either! Jada's a public figure, for goodness sake! And that from a brother who's ALSO married to a sista with alopecia. Hopefully, Chris will sue and the Oscars will ban Will.

I have had AU for about 10 years now.  First there was the humiliation, the hiding it under a wig.  Then I learned from the kids that deal with it and the friends who have hair loss because they are fighting for their lives with cancer... hair loss alone is no big deal.  I started to go "topless" and gave up the wigs.  For a time period I was hyper aware of it.  How I forget about it 99% of the time, only occasionally remembering when someone says something or asks a question.  I understand how Jada feels and also how Will feels.  The helplessness, the degradation. Will acted out of love and protection.  All love and power to him.  How wonderful for Jada that her husband feels so strongly about her that he did this in front of the world.  would it embarrass me if my husband had done this?  oh hell yes it would have.  But I would have understood and admired his devotion.  Way to go Will

LAPD statement on the “slap”- LAPD investigative entities are aware of an incident between two individuals during the Academy Awards program. The incident involved one individual slapping another. The individual involved has declined to file a police report."

I had alopecia starting from a young age and through my adult life.  It has been and still is devastating.  when someone tries to pull off your wig or constantly bullying you throughout your school years or when grown women on your job or at church constantly attempting to be all in your hair, it is traumatizing! Devastating! emotionally draining!  Chris joked about GI Jane 2. I didn’t get it! Chris is a Comedian. I didn’t associate Jada’s alopecia. Jada is beautiful. Jada and her family have been public and vocal about her alopecia. I found her to be brave to bare it all. 40+ years and I am still hiding.  What Will Smith did was wrong. It was a spoiled Actor bully move. Will, is a grown man and should have addressed the issue on the side with Chris Rock.  That would be the adult and right to handle the situation.  Then to use the excuse he had to protect the actresses on the set, from who? Everyone is going through something but punching Chris was not warranted.  I found Will’s excuse for the conduct, weak.  Action speak louder then Words.  I feel Will, was trying to Save face and Career.  It looked bad! It looked bad watching it on tv and the mood changed in the room.  Will’s bad behavior, took away this special night from Venus, Serena and the entire Williams family. It took away from the actors and everyone associated with the movie.   I think his actions took away the win  of the movie!  I just watched King Richard, on Saturday and LOVED the movie. Loved Will’s portrayal. I was hoping he won!  I have to agree with RJ, Co-Founder, Chris needs to sue.

So here is my take. We have been telling our kids/grandkids to keep their hands to themselves since they were young... no matter the situation (unless someone put their hands on them/you). So, to me, it was uncool and uncalled for. I would have been much more on Will's side, if he had stood up and said "Not cool man, not cool" But to resort to any kind of violence is not right in my books.
