Will has changed the rules. The bulling is hidden behind the humor a lot of times, when the school, when adults... not everything is valid. People has to defend from attacks (physical or verbal defense is not the question). Thanks to Will, the world has learned something else.

Among the many “showman” weighing in I saw Kat Timpf say she had Alopecia in her  20’s and had Playlet rich plasma treatments that  cured her  disease. I’ve been dealing with this for 20 years and have NEVER heard of this treatment….anyone?

I've heard of it before.  It's called PRP, it takes stem cells from your blood and then reinjects them into your scalp.  I've also heard of something similar that's happened by accident, a young maybe not so young, had lukemia and under went stem cell therapy using his twin brothers blood as the donor.  He had AU at the time.  After the stem cell therapy he was cured of his cancer and his AU.  Follow up at 3, 6, 12 month intervals, still cured and again 4 years later, still cured.  I'm thinking it's got to be something in the DNA

The stem cell treatment for the cancer patient is different from PRP. Stem cell treatment for the cancer patient is basically replacing the entire immune system thru bone marrow where the white blood cells are produced. PRP is injection of your own plasma into your scalp to induce hair growth. I’ve done PRP and its really painful and it did sprout a bit of hair growth but the disease progressed and now I have AU so its not really an option.  I think PRP may be helpful to those with small AA patches.  Bone marrow transplant is not an option for any of us.  The closest thing would be what this company’s work Throne Bio is doing. The cancer patient had their entire immune system replaced with bone marrow transplant. Throne is essentially doing a version of replacement by retraining the immune system thru dialysis with cord blood stem cells. Throne is trying to raise enough funds to start phase 2 clinical trials but lack the funds because they are not a large pharmaceutical company. The best thing we can do is to spread the word and encourage donations and NAAF to support this. https://www.startengine.com/throne-biotechnologies

Comedy is dead.  Comedy pokes fun of and makes light of many topics - some hilarious, some awkward.  I'm no fan of Chris Rock or the Oscars, but roasts have always been a part of the Oscars.  Jada is a public figure and wears her alopecia with dignity - as she should.  I never even knew she had it - I always thought she shaved her head.  It's an attractive look.  But anyone who watched the whole thing (not just the slap) knows that in context it did not come from a place of meanness and bullying.  The message Will Smith sent was that alopecia really is something to be ashamed of or embarrassed about.  Only when we can face it with reasonable humor can we de-stigmatize it.  In my family, we've always approached my child's alopecia universalis with love, compassion, seriousness AND humor.  Humor can be found in any difficult situation.

I guess we all see things differently, but that is not the message that I got from Will Smith's behavior.  The message I got was:  Bullying is not cool and should not be tolerated!  Sorry, but I do not find my alopecia universalis "humorous".  I can't help but wonder if your child's AU is seen as being humorous by HER.  I know you may mean well when you joke about it, but are you sure she is not going along with you to curry affection and favor from you?  Children want to please their parents whether they are even aware of it or not sometime.  My and her disease (and, yes, it is a real disease) does not need to be "de-stigmatized".  It needs to be recognized and addressed as a real medical condition.  I suppose humor can be found in any condition, but it should never be found at the expense of others.  No, Comedy is not dead; but Bullying is or should be.  Will Smith was wrong, but his reaction was understandable.  Like many of us, he and Jada are probably tired of those who would say, "It's only hair".  I know I am.

I think one of the most hypocritical things about the situation is Chris Rock did a documentary called 'Good Hair' Most of us in the black community can relate to that topic on many different levels, in many different ways.  People of other cultures wont get it nor understand that part of our cultural identity.  So, for Chris Rock to say what he said, to me it showed he had no taste in that joke, especially coming from someone who did a documentary on the very topic.  He lacked dignity and association, hypocritical.

I dont think comedy is dead, I think people who call themselves comedians use 'humor' to take back slaps at people because they are too cowardly to say it to their face.  They get on stage, speak from the real thoughts going on in their heads, the ones that they're thinking but cant say out loud unless in front of an audience, and create a 'joke' out of it.  Its akin to 'tell me how you really feel' because they are cowards, punks, but cant only say it and hide behind it, as a joke.

I have a son with cerebral palsy.  I remember times when he was little and kids would make fun of him how he would tell me he wished he wasnt special.  People make jokes about people with CP all the time.  Including comedians. People with CP can't help their condition, many wish they didnt have it, I can definitely say most people dont understand what it is, and I know for people that do have it, sometimes feel sad because people make jokes of it.  So when I see comments from those people trying to make excuses for bad taste and call it humor, thinking because celebs are a public figure it gives you free reign to roast them, remember when you go outside in public, you are a public figure too.  All things being equal as it is, whats good for the public figures is good for you out in public.  So if you think what Chris Rock did was 'ok' dont be shocked when you go out in public and catch some roast, and see if you feel the same way.
