I was just wondering if anyone has tried laser treatment. I went for a first visit today and sat under a hair dryer type of thing for 40 minutes. The woman said she has had people with alopecia come in, and had success with some people.

So, I was just wondering if any of you have personal experience with this treatment or have any information on it. I'm also doing cortisone shots which are working for me, but the hair is extremely slow growing in. Thanks : )

Hi there, I hope it doesn't make u give up trying because everyone is different!!
I tried the laser treatment when I was 15 & nothing came of it so after a few months I gave up!
Lotions n potions didn't work for me either but I've heard of people who it's worked for so good luck!
:)
Some things work for some people. Let us know if this works for you.
Hey Jess,

I tried laser treatments - did them for a year. Unfortunately for me it did not work. It did however make the hair I did have... healthy and shiny! I was a little disappointed but do not regret trying it. Never know unless you try! I even tried a LED light study ( in your area! - Peabody MA) - and again that didn't work for me. But there was another woman who had more extensive hair loss than I did - and it worked for her. So again - I think it's worth trying!

One thing it did help with was the redness or/and itching I had from my spots .... that went away completely! Which in theory made me think that if it is helping with the inflammation then the hair should grow. Perhaps it did grow back faster then it would have without treatment but it didn't prevent any new spots from starting.
Thanks for the replies everyone. And Heather, I'm interested in the LED light study as it's in the next town over from me. What is it exactly? I've had luck with DCP and cortisone shots so who knows, these may work for me. I have to travel about an hour for the laser treatment (she wants me to go every other day) which is a lot, especially during my last summer before college! I'd like to hear some more about this thing in Peabody. Thanks again everyone!
Jess,
Laser treatment is right up there with shampoo's, herbs, etc. For all the money I spent on these things I could have been sitting on a beach somewhere in a four star hotel with my husband drinking a nice little drink with an umbrella tanning my bald head. Save your money girl and spend it on your self in other ways. Get a 40 min massage, much better for your soul. :)
Haha you're probably right, but the woman I'm seeing for laser is letting me try it out for free, and we will only pay when/if it starts to work.
Please keep us posted! Love your positive attitude! Just wondering if you're going to board at college? My daughter is starting freshman year and she's anxious about the roommate situation. Thanks.
Sorry for the late reply, but yes I am rooming at my college in the fall. The girls I'm with are awesome and they could careless about my alopecia. Although it may be tough at first to be comfortable around them without a wig on (like when sleeping or just relaxing) I'm sure it'll be fine.
I read an article about this LED treatment somewhere last year. I cant find a refernce to it on a google search anymore however the treatment was performed in israel approx 2002- 2004 on children and it gave remarkably good results. If memory serves me right the results showed in some cases that the condition was reversed completely in some kids. I am very keen to hear how you get on with this treatment Jess. Please keep us informed. The nearest thing to LED I have experienced is PUVA treatment about 20 years ago. I regrew all my hair 3 times with that. Alas it fell out after a few months with my next alopecia episode however if I had continued the treatment who knows. This LED treatment does appear to be a safer option PUVA as theres no harmful radiation from it. The very best of luck to you.
I'm not sure if this treatment has worked, because I could only do 10 sessions, and I am unsure if that small amount of time will help. But, there is definitely some new growth coming in. I have decided to stop this treatment, because it will end up being expensive/I'll be too busy in college. I will continue with cortisone shots, though, because these work on me!
My daughter has been going for laser treatments fo almost a year and has regained growth on her entire head. She previously had no hair growth for 2-3 years. She is still going and has to for the rest of her life. The hair now is like baby hair, but they say it will get thicker. We are so happy for her.
PS - they said success depends on how long it has been since hair grew.
Brenda

When all my hair fell out, I went to a dermatologist and received treatments with an Xtrac laser at 308 NM. After many treatments, I have about 60% of my hair growing back. I had to stop the treatments when I moved to the DC area about a year ago. I haven't had any additional hair loss in the area that was treated. The hair that did come back is thin and pure white, but I'm trying a few other options that seem to be working.
