Xeljanz (Tofacitinib Citrate): My experience on the trial
I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.
I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.
Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.
The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.
I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

To be honest, nobody knows what will work as a maintenance dosage. It could also be that everyone is different. Due to me seeing results off one pill a day, I believe that level will work for me. They are also coming out with an extended release version that i think would be ideal for maintenance due to the drug's short half-life.
I think it is iimportant for all to realize and remember that this is autoimmune...there are no gurantees. The cost is what makes the decision difficult because of that. Nobody can tell you how well this will work for you or guarantee an affordable maintenance dosage. I personally am hoping for more of a curative development around this disease.

OK we shall be more when there will be people who will be in a dose of interview(maintenance) try them private hospitals will be revealed when? Then in your tete to imagine you to all to lose it is horrible I have already lived her(its) with the methotrexate.

If you decide to buy from Turkey its your choice.
You must think long and hard.
It may or may not work for everyone.
If it works can you afford to keep taking 1 tablet a day.
It may give you problems as its a strong drug.
It may take you few months to get all your hair back or it may take a year.
Can you handle it if you relapse and lose your hair again.
It's a treatment not a cure.

Most drugs are treatments xeljanz for RA is a treatment.The thyroid pill I take is for treatment my husband takes all kinds of asthma medication treatment

Just wanted to point out to people to weigh up the pros and cons before taking without a doctor.

Here is this months photo (post haircut) :)
With some hair fibers the front actually looks good! the back is quite patchy at the top and the bottom half is still waiting to grow. I've had my sides shaved a bit and the tattoo blends in quite well with it.

Nice, the hair is getting thick. I notice your eyebrows are thick. Great results. I have question, They say that the clinical trial results will be out by october, right? I was wondering, when do you think Xenjanz will be approved assuming the results are positive?

Thanks DJ, Even when the positive results are published it will still take time for it to become approved if it will be. It may take a long time unfortunately.
