I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

Wow you must be so happy mate!! Keep us updated! You still on you shots too?

Fantastic AU1989 ,

Congratulations

Awesome response...the lashes will come. I have been on it for a year and just started getting leg hair a couple of months ago. Sometimes things come in a strange order...but they come.

Things grow as they want to, when they want to. Hair on your foot may grow before  your scalp, or armpit hair before facial hair. You will not know or understand it. Just ride the wave

Have to agree with this! Its so strange how it happens. I have 100% head hair back but still no lashes, arm pits, or "other areas" lol. The mystery of alopecia continues ..
Hey everyone!
Im really interested in trying xeljanz. Does anyone know of a dermatologist in Florida that prescribes it? Thank you guys so much in advance.

Try and see a Rheumatologist, they have more knowledge in the autoimmune field. Many Dermatologist are hesitant to prescribe the drug.

Ill look into that, i appreciate it

Which ever one you see be sure to print and take all the info you can on the subject (Yale/ Columbia study, 2010 Genome Study). This will make for a more compelling reason for you to try it.

Did anyone develop a cold or a sore throat while on xeljanz? I'm currently on my first month and I recently developed a small cold but I'm not sure if I can just take over the counter cold medicine. Just need advice not looking for a consultation lol
I had one cold that took me about a week and half to get over. I didn't want to take any more medicine with xeljanz so I just treated with a lot of vitC and vitD and hot tea for the sore throat. I'm sure you can take cold medicine over the counter I would take ibuprofen over Tylenol though
awesome, thank you katiegirl!! I was just nervous about taking anything with xeljanz
