I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

Hi Singh, yes I could feel it passing my hands by the end of first month, but to really see it like in pictures took a little more time.
A little of eyelashes are growing back, but they're breaking before getting long enough :( I'm also taking a supplement called MSM 1500mg that I think it's helping to speed up the hair growth and my nails as well. I tried biotin before and it didn't make a difference.
I hope yours pigment soon. Mine were pigmented since the beginning which actually surprised Dr King a lot, since it's been exactly 18 years now since I turned AU

congratulations!

Were you AU before? for how long?

Where can I get this drug, how much the price?
Is it possible to give me a number of those which sells the medicine the pharmacy?

Xeljanz2015,
Thank you for adding such good information to help us all!
My daughter has female pattern hair loss, so we are starting on spironolactone and yaz bcp. Fascinating that Dr. King prescribed it for your alopecia!
Hi Beth, yes he prescribed the Spiro mostly because it's been almost 20 years that I haven't had any hair, so he thought the androgenetic could be happening by my age now. He's so dedicated to his patients and I'm so happy to have him as my doctor! He was very very excited when he saw the results! Good luck to your daughter!
That's amazing considering how long you have been AU! What is msm? I might take it too
Singh I bought it on amazon .com I attached the pic.
It's a supplement that helps with joint pain. I think it was Wildstar that talked about it some posts back and it's working for me growing hair faster and nails stronger. I take 1 pill/day

Thanks you xeljanz 2015 will look into that. Keep us updated
Xeljanz2015,
What is dosage of your Spironolactone?
Many thanks, and very happy for you!

Beth, it was a process and lots of visits to the lab.

I started at 25mg 1x/day for 1 week and went for blood work

Increased to 25mg 2x/day for 1 week and went for another blood work

Increased to 50mg/morning and 25mg/night for a week then blood work again

Increased to 100mg 1x/day for a week then blood work again

Finally increased to actual dose of 100mg 2x/day and will go for blood work next month

So far all results are good and no side effects.

Thank you!!!

Fantastic, thank you for sharing. I will repeat protocol with my daughter.
Is anybody taking a folate or b6 supplement while on Xeljanz to keep their blood platelet count up?
