I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

I'm at about 50% regrowth, started with almost nothing on my head .

Good morning,

Would you tell me the name of the doctor you are seeing in Houston that is prescribing Xeljaz for you?  Thanks.

Hi Sadele how's YOURE progression going I just read where you went down to 3 pills how is that working for you. Thanks James
Hello everyone. This is my 3rd month update with Xeljanz:
There is not much improvement from the second month. Hair is coninuing to grow on my head but not too much on the eyebrow area anymore. Not much hair growth on eyelashes, and body either. I also have about 80% growth on my beard and less than 10% on my mustache. I feel that at this point this is the maximum results I would get from taking two pills because I'm also starting to experience more hair shedding than before. I'm not too worried about it now because I'd like to think that it's normal. But if it continues till the end of October I might consider taking 3 pills instead of two. What do you guys think? I know it's too early to consider that but I think it's also weird that I'm experiencing excessive hair shedding that early.
Did anyone go through hair shedding while taking Xeljanz but still kept growing more hair?
I would give it more time any regrowth means the Medicine is working my reummatolagist had told me when I started Xelljanz that it takes 3 months to actually get into you're system good luck and stay patient
Thank you for sharing that information James. I will stay patient and will keep posting more updates soon...
I will be starting Xeljanz soon and was wondering if I can still get steroid injections while being on it. My RA Doctor is prescribing it and I'm not sure he knows about the steroid injections
Yes you can suzie .. I got the injection a couple of times while on it .. I've also used clobetosol on my scalp ( prob spelled wrong ) it's totally fine
Did you feel your hair growth worked better with the steroid shots and Xeljanz combined? How long have you been on the Xeljanz and did you get regrow the?
No I didn't notice a diff with the shots but before I lost all of my hair and only had a few patches yes the shots helped .. I had full regrowth less than 6 months in then went through a stressful time and had anesthesia and it began falling out again so I shaved it mid August .. it's growing back in again.
I have been doing shots for the last 6-7 months and my hair filled it except for a few small areas. Now it is shedding and has been for the past couple of months. The front and top are what is shedding the most, I'm tempted to shave it off but I haven't yet. The rest of the hair seems to be at a slower growth rate than it was before as well.. I'm on 15mg a day Xeljanz.
So frustrating.
Sadele how's your eyelashes and brows still you have or fall out again !
Thanks
