I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

OMG Dwhite, guess what? Good News!!! You can get 4 months ($12,000 worth) of free Xeljanz this month (for 2016) AND 4 months for next year (starting Jan 2017). You need a Drs. appointment ASAP! So u can get this year's supply before month is up. I'm going to call my doctor's office and see if I can give u my appointment.
Dwhite, call the office supervisor, Carol, at my Derm's. Her number is (415) 353-7803. You can have my appointment on December 22, at 11:15 am!

Thank you so much!  Let me know if that's okay with the dr. office.  I'm available on the 22nd.

Dwhite, tell Carol (415) 353-7803 thant you are Valeri Coleman's friend who is giving you her December 22nd appointment at 11:15 am. Call me if you have any questions, (510) 706-0609 or (510) 613-3459. Please let me know u got my messages. Thanks

Hi...is the derm. at UCSF?  I called but just got a message machine...it didn't sound like a derm. office.  Can you call and see if this will be okay?  My name is Debbie White.  Thanks

Yes, it's the Office Supervisor's number at UCSF Debbie. She's expecting YOUR call so she can tell you what you need to do. I ALREADY spoke to her. She's waiting to hear from you.

Hi Valeri...I called and talked to Carol.  It's all set.  Will you be alright not having this appt.?  I can't thank you enough!!

Yes Dwhite, I will be OK. I can reschedule after January 1. It works out because coincidentally I have a very important appointment that same day at 1:30 in another city so that late morning appointment was cutting it close. I'm so happy that you.might be able to get 8 months of free Xeljanz. Your timing is good. "Hairy New Year!"

Is it true all people stopped the cure had relapse?

I would think if you stop Xeljanz hair will fall out

Xeljanz really isn't a cure for alopecia, it is a treatment that needs to be continuously taken until something better comes along. The good news is there are a lot of clinical studies being conducted for alopecia.

The bad news is whatever comes along is most likely going to be very expensive and NOT covered by insurance.

So who is using want use it all life ???

It's a big risk...it's a strong droug and the alopecia is only a estetic problem.
