I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

interesting! research will continue... it's just too bad this whole thing takes so much time. why didn't they start all this 10 or 15 years ago? lol
I know mate it would have been backed by now I think. Let's just hope it's all out for the near future
How many years do you think it was alopecia cure According to research universities like Chicago and Colombia
Hi Sara, I'm not a dr but I feel a cure won't come until a treatment comes out first. I think by Atleast 2020-2022 a treatment will be out for alopecia and probable male pattern baldness. But as for a cure it is genetically complicated and don't forget the hair industry makes a lot of money so I don't think they will bring a cure out for Atleast 10 years. But stay positive as the next 36 months a treatment could be out God willing

Kind regards
Are xeljanz carcinogenic?
Ctp-543 has been put on clinical hold. I really do hope they speed things up.
So how common is it to shed when on xeljanz. Thinking I am at a standstill.

Been on it for about 2 and a half months and I've thought I hit a standstill a few times while on it. I'd say be patient theres some days you don't see results and then suddenly new hairs pop up, thats what happened to me. Although I did start seeing a lot more growth once my doctor bumped me up from 2 pills a day to 3.

I don't have much head hair yet but I've had good growth in my eyebrows/eyelashes (about 40% at this point I'd say) There's also small black hairs all over my chest and arms. For someone who's had AU for 15 years I think this is good progress.

Good to hear improvement. Thanks for the insight. I have had it for forty years. I have never looked myself over so much. I expect it to take a long time. I wish my doctor would bump me up. I think the dose might be to low for my BMI. I have started to eat clean and workout. I am thinking it might help

I have been on it for over a year, and experience mild eyelash shedding and a few scalp hairs each day. I immediately panic, but my dermatologist told me to think of it as a mechanical pencil - the hair is getting pushed out by new growth, and because it all grew in at the same time, I am likely to see more shedding.

Hope that helps.
