I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

Thank you I hope so too . I want to get off but so scared
Has anyone heard from katiegirl? I know she had to have had her baby by now .. I wonder how she's doing and how her hair is
Hi all, yes sorry I haven't been on much. I had the baby on 6/14 so it's been a hectic two weeks! I thankfully am able to report that my hair is still holding strong. I noticed a patch on the right side of my head about the size of a dime more than a month ago and thankfully it is already growing in. I was told by my doctor that sometimes pregnancy helps the alopecia since it makes you immunosuppressed So now that I am no longer pregnant I really hope that my hair doesn't shed or find any new patches. If anything does occur I will keep everyone updated.

Congratulations on your new baby!  June 14th just happens to be my birthday so what a great day to be born!  Flag day also!

Wow jcortez your growth is amazing and for being on only one pill a day is fantastic. You probably could wean even more but I understand your worries.

She is on the extended release...so 1 extended release pill is equal to 2 standard pills. However, she is only taking them 3 times a week which still makes it impressive. I just started 1 pill a day of the standard pills (not extended release). I have been on this dosage a month with no noticeable shedding. More research is coming out...interesting articles out there on Tregs and their role for potential new treatment/ cure.

Best to all!

Do you research?

No, I do not. I just like to keep a pulse on the developments and direction of some of the current studies and findings.

Are researchers working on stem cell therapy?
Are researchers working on stem cell therapy?

I have not seen much on stem cell therapy since 2015 for this condition. It was actually stem cell educator therapy. I am sure additional stem cell research is going on all the time. Stem cell research has a ton to offer for many conditions.
