I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

Hi everyone. I want to share what I hope is a really good sign. I went completely AU in the space of three weeks in June 2017. I started Xeljanz 5mg twice a day three weeks ago, and I can see that my fingernails, which were very very badly affected by the AU, are looking infinitely better. No hair at all to be seen, but I am beyond excited by this development, My toenails are still very bad, but they were affected well after my fingernails. I am hoping that this development is attributable to the Xeljanz and that it is a good indication that my hair will also respond. Will keep you all posted!

Yay! That's great news! Three weeks is super early too so try not  to worry about no hair yet! I am really excited and think you'll start seeing hair soon!

Thank you Frida! I know it's too early for hair - it's just tantalizing to think that the nails are an indication that I am a responder. I feel happy and hopeful in a way that I have not for 9 months!

Hi, I'm in 3 weeks xeljanz too, nothing for me yet, let's keep in touch:)

I did send you a personal message a couple of weeks ago - maybe check your inbox? Don't get me wrong - it is only my nails which seem a bit better - nothing has yet happened with my hair, nor would I have expected it to after three weeks... very happy to keep in touch!

Week 6 for me, standard dose.

Scalp hair coming in both black and white, eyebrows have stopped falling, beard hair is still coming out.

That is truely amazing! So so so fast. I think your recovery is happening so fast that the shed is really just hair that was "dead" in the follicle being pushing out by new hair coming in! Truely awesome results! Looks like you have very thick hair naturally. I think you'll soon be back to pre-alopecia days! Great stuff!

I hope so, I'll shave my beard if I can rock a crew cut. I'll be 30 March 11th I'm crossing my fingers that I can have a head of hair for my birthday

Amazing results. If it continues growing like this you could try some dermatch or topik in a week or 2 and you will have enough hair for the product to adhere to.

Outstanding results! Congrats :)

Friends I do not drink pills one day a week to reduce the total cost of medication. Is that a problem? I use 20 mg daily.

Hi Okan,

if if you are at the beginning and haven't established regrowth I'd probably hold off, if you have established growth I think it would probably be ok. Always a risk though. I think it would probably be less risky then dropping to 10mg everyday but again I think you'd just have to keep a close eye on your hair etc to see if it starts to shed.
