I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

That’s great information - yes the half life seems very short- good if you need to get it out of your system fast (ie infection etc)- bad if we need to covered all hours of the day to prevent issues. Thanks for the info!

Frida for dealing with stress and in general with controlling my mind better and taking a step back in what is happening around me what has helped me is meditation. I would recommend guided in the beginning and non-guided after some time you got some experience.

Also the biggest benefits come from consistency in doing meditation routinely. For understanding the process, this book has been great https://www.urbandharma.org/pdf2/Mindfulness%20in%20Plain%20English...

Mastros, totally agree with you on guided meditation.

Before my AA started I was the last person who would have ever considered meditation. I was too tough and strong for that stuff, well until this happened.

Then a friend suggested I listen to Micheal Sealey so I grabbed my AirPods and lay down on a comfortable sofa and OMG it was amazing!

Here's one of my favourites of his.

Guided Meditation Detachment from over thinking

Thanks guys, yes I think meditation and taking some time to paint and be creative will be good for calming the mind and trying to block that stress out.   I am surprised that I am not freaking out, albeit the shed so far is very minor. I guess I have such trust in these meds and that gives me a sense of control. I got my meds, my family, my (still living ) dogs (I had 3- slightly obsessed with dogs) and I have all these lovely people on this forum who offer wisdom and comfort.  While it is scary I do have this sense of peace too. And part of that is being part of this group. So much love to all and you better believe I’m gonna kick this alopecia shed in the ass! Lol (excuse language)

Frida, it's looking even more promising than I had originally hoped. Resveratrol is also a JAK STAT modulator and an anti-inflammatory! Still doing more research but look forward to others thoughts and contributions.

Resveratrol is great. It's a polyphenol. I take it daily,

Isn't that something one can buy on Amazon?

Sure can or any health store. I get mine through red wine intake.

Ha - just went to the pharmacy and bought one! I’ll add to the regime!

Frida, what brand did you buy and what's in it (how much ResV)?

Be careful until we know more. ResV may have great potential to help us significantly reduce Xeljanz dose, maybe even to a small once/day dose. But on the flip side since ResVi inhibits/decreases the CYP3A4 enzyme it can cause a spike of the serum levels of any drug that depends on CYP3A4 to be broken down and eliminated from the body.

This article seems to have a lot info worth a read.

https://selfhacked.com/blog/top-15-scientific-health-benefits-of-re...

Antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral attributes of ResV seem interesting, considering the greater risk of infection on Xeljanz (Shingles, Cold, Flu, etc..)

I picked up some Resveratrol with Quercetin.

Since I'm just on 10mg Xeljanz, I decided to give it a try yesterday morning and see how I feel after a week. Took it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach as that seems to be the recommended time. Within 2hrs the tingling, itching and burning subsided, and the inflammation went down considerably. It's the first time in over a year I felt some relief.

Hi Frida I hope your ok. Do not stress it could be just part of the normal hair cycle and maybe up your dose a little just to steady things. Although I understand how stressful times can be.

Before you try this new thing to regime maybe you should ask your dr incase it does not interact well with xeljanz.

kind regards.
