I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

Hey all. I've now been on Tobacitinib for 3 months so wanted to share some progress photos. The first four photos are from today and the bottom two are from 1.5 months on the drug. I've been taking the Beacon generics, 11mg in the morning and 5mg at night. Hoping to post another progress photos at the 6 month mark.

Thanks Rascal! And you're right, I recently noticed a few arm hairs are back and this morning saw 3 eyelash hairs growing. It's such a good feeling!

That’s awesome!!

Thanks!

Way to go man! This is super encouraging! Wishing you all the best with it!

Paul.

Thanks Paul!

Hi Ahmed,

Thanks for sharing. Amazing results !

How long had you been AU for before taking Tofacitinib ?

Did your journey to AU stem from AA patches that joined up ? .... Or a uniform shedding of hair ?

Thanks Scott! I had AU since December of 2017. I had one patch for a long time and didn't think much of it. In October of 2017 I started getting more patches and lost it all by mid December. It was a bunch of random patches that eventually led to it all falling out.

This is really great progress! In 6 months I think you’ll have it all back. It’s an amazing feeling to see the hair starting to grow and feeling the grip of this condition loosen on our lives! Very much looking forward to seeing your journey back to hair!

Thanks Frida! I hope you're right about the 6 months. That would be amazing!

Hi Frida,

You mentioned you started steroid pulsing to kick start growth and I’m just wondering once starting how long after did your hair start growing from the day you started your co-therapy?

And what signs are you looking out for ? Vellus hairs to begin with ?

Thank you again !

Kind regards
