Hi all, I'm in Qld on the Sunshine Coast. I have a variety of wigs including a Freedom suction wig. Right now I'm wearing a human hair injected cap wig that I ordered over the web. I've bought all my wigs that way for a few years now. My first wigs were bought from Starkles, one of them I loved. However I got sick of wearing wigs with that kind of base and wanted something more comfortable so I started wearing lace wigs. Also I have a petite size head and most wigs swamp me. I'm always on a quest for the most realistic and comfortable wig as I wear them every day.
Alopecia is just one of many problems in my life and I wish all of them could be resolved as easily as wearing a wig! I've had aa, and au for most of the last 20 years and am now resigned to entering old age bald..ugh!

Hi Sharalynne,
I'm slowly starting to learn more about wigs & I know how hard it is to find the right one.
Do you wear synthetic or human hair? Are you getting them styled to suit you - this can help with some of the bulkiness, pretty much every wig I've seen has too much hair, especially for people like me with a little face!
Sorry I can't help with buying wigs in Qld as I'm in Melbourne (I did live on the gold coast for a while but that was before my alopecia started)

I live in Brisbane and wondering if anyone knows a good place to buy wigs (I always wear one) I've been to Starkles and a place down the coast but have trouble finding one that fits my scalp they are always bulky.. or does anyone know how to get rid of the "bulkyness" - (not sure if that's a word haha) in the back of wigs,

Hi Nicky - great to see you found us!! yes it is difficult to cope in certain circumstances - I wear a tight fitting hat in the surf.... it does come off occassionally but its cloth and I don't care if I do loose it!!!
REGARDING SUCTION BASED WIGS... FREEDOM WIGS ARE GREAT IN NSW AND TANGO HAIR IN REDHILL QLD ORGANISE AND FIT SUCTION BASED WIGS.... MAKE SURE YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT AND THAT YOU ARE A WIG WEARER BEFORE YOU GO AS I HAVE SEEN LOTS OF PRETTY WIGS NEVER WORN!!!!!

cheers for now

Dear All
just to let you know I've joined the 5 Aussie members- I live on the sunnie coast of qld- I know Angela form the QLd branch already ! I have had alopecia for 5 yrs now- time goes fast- totally bald now after growing back then flling out again. I wear a wig I must admit when I am out and about not so brave to go bald as some . I was wondering about swimming in the surf too - I usually wear a bandana as I can just see my wig ending up in Fiji if i wore it- also I don't have a suction one either . It's times like that when you want to do things and you feel that being bald just stops you or makes you different. Oh well things could be worse. I have an understanding husband and 2 lovely kids who just know mummies hair fell out .
Ok better go
