I've had FFA for about 10 years now. I'm just curious if folks in this group have gone completely natural with their skincare, sun care, and cosmetics choices *AND* if they think it's made a difference.

I stopped using chemical sunscreen on my face, but I still use traditional, non-organic, makeup. I'm considering dumping it all and opting for a line that doesn't have many chemicals. Before I do this, though, and potentially spend a ton of $$, I'd love to know what others have done.

I should add that I wear makeup everyday. I wear mineral-based, zinc sunscreen, along with foundation, mascara, and eyeliner. Plus, brow power and brow pen.

If anyone has suggestions of one company (maybe Thrive?) that has a great, safe cosmetics line, please feel free to share!

Thanks everyone!

I started looking into this since I got diagnosed recently. I decided I wanted to try to avoid titanium dioxide and I could not find a drugstore foundation brand that didn't contain it. I usually wear foundation every day. I am in the process of deciding what to buy next. The lines that I found online that don't contain titanium dioxide are Omiana and 100% Pure. They are quite expensive (for me) at about $40 a bottle for foundation, since I had been paying $12 before for Neutrogena. I also would be curious about what others have to say as I was just diagnosed last week.

P.S. I just checked out Thrive's site and their foundation contains titanium dioxide. :-(

Thanks for this info! Very helpful. DARN about Thrive! I may try Inika (as mentioned in another comment).

Interesting question. Yes I have had FFA for 2 years now. I did trash all my former makeup, soap, shampoo, conditioner, hairspray and sunscreen. First I trashed everything with aa SPF rating and oxybenzone and avobenzone or any benzene variation.

I work remotely so i so I am able to not use makeup so much. I used to wear moisturizer, sunscreen, foundation, mascara, eyebrow pencil, blush and lipstick daily before being diagnosed. Now I wear mascara (EWG recommended mascara) and eyebrow pencil daily. I generally avoid the sun during peak times but do use tinted zinc oxide (Whole Foods 365 brand) when I know I will be in the sun.

i have no way to know if it helps. I thought I would get older and keep up my appearance. Now I have changed to try too keep as much hair as I can and not worry about my makeup. If I need to meet people for work, I may bring out the EWG approved tinted moisturizer. Talk about going all out!

Good luck!

Thank you so much. And yes, it definitely helps!

I switch to Inika makeup , and no longer use product with SPF in it.  Inika is available on line, I am happy with their products, I also use a brow soft pencil .hour glass, it's great for creating soft hair like strokes to fill in the bald patches in my eyebrows.

I'm going to try this line! Thank you!

Re titanium dioxide, this is the response I received when I queried ingredients in Inika products::-

Hi Heather,

Thank you for your enquiry.

As INIKA Organic products are 100% natural there is a very high chance of the existence of Titanium Dioxide in our products.

INIKA’s titanium dioxide is NON micronized (does not contain nanoparticles). It is considered ‘fine’ with the particles between 1 and 2 microns, however a nano or ultra-fine particle measures less than 0.1 microns (100 nanometers). Our ingredients are well above the nanoparticle threshold and cannot penetrate the skin.

To further set your mind at rest, our non-nano sized titanium dioxide is uncoated and free of silicone or dimethicone (silicone derived emollients) which coat the skin, trapping anything beneath it while inhibiting the skin’s natural ability to breathe.

There have recently been alarming reports that show 8 out of 10 high-end cosmetic brands contain some form of nanoparticles in their concealers and foundations. INIKA strongly believe we should never sacrifice our health and wellbeing for beauty. And we hope you agree.

I hope this information helps you Heather. Thank you for your interest in INIKA Organic!

With kind regards,

Thank you for posting this! And thank you for asking about titanium dioxide.

I have switched to Rejuva Minerals for my foundation,  I love the way it goes on & looks.  I found it through the EWG verified products.

Recently I started transitioning to makeup without chemicals.  I like the products I have tried so far.  The company I’d BaeBlu.  Online ordering and customer service is top notch.  At the direction of my Dermo the last 6 months I have being using Clear and Free shampoo and conditioner - I think these products have helped with the scalp redness and itching.  Face and body soap is Vanicream - I like the product and does not cause dryness.

I haven’t tried sunscreens but have read products with zinc oxide are best but I think your skin will have a faint white film.  I saw this when looking for foundations with sun screen.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much! I'll check it out!
