I am here to say I strongly recommend getting it done! It is worth every penny. I had mine done yesterday and I can't believe the difference in my life. For a year I had been carting around eyebrow pencils, always worrying about smudging throughout the day. I didn't realize how much I had been avoiding looking at myself in the mirror; now I can't stop! They are so realistic. My husband kept doing double takes at me all last night and saying "wow!" And he never notices anything...I always have to tell him when I got my haircut lol! I can't wait to go swimming next week without having to worry about looking like an alien.

Be sure to do your homework though. I first checked out a woman in town that is just starting out and has all this new high end equipment. Her price of $175 was tempting. But then I found Jamilla, an hour's drive away from me in NH. She has been doing permanent cosmetics for 20 years and is a true artist. Just last week she had a woman (with FFA) fly in from South Carolina for corrective work. This poor lady had a plastic surgeon do her initial eyebrows and they were poorly shaped and turned blue in 6 months. She then went to two more people to try and get them corrected and then spent several years having them removed by laser.

Since any picture I post will likely be upside down or worse, I thought I'd put a link to Jamilla's web site instead. If you are like me and googled eyebrow tattoo, you are probably horrified at the idea! However Jamilla has tons of before/after pictures, in addition to her corrective work, that you can see what a true artist and professional can do. She also has a section on what to look for in a permanent cosmetician. It is a very informative site.

Anne Louise - that is just great - I was wondering how you got on and after the disappointment of NOT having them done recently.  I totally agree - I was limping along with a few rogue hairs sticking out of my browline.  I was fortunate in that I was recommended Belinda Hayle in Chertsey UK by Debs so I really wasn't nervous when I went a year last December.  Having the touching up done on the eyebrows in June and look forward to it.  Doesn't it make a total difference to your facial expression ?  How we all took having eyebrows for granted before ! (And hair of course but that goes without saying !) Enjoy your swimming ! x

Forgot to say to everybody, I'm sure you know this Anne Louise, but always use sun cream on your brows they will fade otherwise !

I had to cancel my eyebrow appointment last week due to a death in the family.  I was able to reschedule for next Tuesday.  I am so excited.  I see my derm first for more injections and i hope there won't be a conflict with steroid injections and the ink used for the eyebrows.  I'm having them done in St. Louis at a reputable salon.  $450 for the eyebrows and one touch uo or $600 for two touch ups.  Do you ladies that have had this done know how many touch ups are needed?

Brenda, I go back in two weeks for further coloring and detail work and then a third time if necessary before it is all finalized. From what I understand, darker brows can last a bit longer than fairer ones, but in general touch ups are needed about every 12 months.

I guess I'd better go for the third touch up.  My brows were light when i had them.  Thank you.

How funny!! I just got my eyebrows tattooed twp days ago on May 1st!!  I LOVE them and they still have to heal.  I had previously tried eyebrow tattooing about 6 years ago and not only did it not look great they faded and turned this weird pearly white--almost more invisible--thank you very much. I guess the technician used something to lighted the ink and it stains the skin white...

So this time I went to a specialist who does a three-phase type of tattoo with shading, feathering and then hair-like strands--it is AMAZING!!  I have been very depressed lately--I was diagnosed with FFA in March along with a basel cell carcinoma on the end of my nose.  That surgery May 12....but I can't control that.  What I can control is the way I look so I decided to go again and get my eyebrows done rather than looking like an old boiled onion--yep, that's how I've been feeling lately!!

BUT my eyebrow tattoos were way more pricey than Anne Louise--it seems like everything in California is more!  Haha!  My procedure was $450 but I would have paid $1,000 for how I feel!!!  They still are super dark but I can see that they will be beautiful--it makes my face look alive again.  I will post some photos of before and after.  I highly recommend this--it's a new day :)

Here are the before and after pics. I hope they don't come in upside down--that happens all the time to me...

I've just tried twice so bear with me on uploading photos.  There are 3 pics here hopefully they come in and are not upside down :) I just looked and it looks like the before photo (obviously) is the middle photo,

They look great Camie! I think my post may have been misleading...my cost was $650 for three sessions. I'm glad I paid that vs $175 for a less experienced person. Sounds like you had the same technique that I have. I can't believe how my mood and outlook have radically improved!

For what it's worth, my friend had basal cell on the end of her nose last year and the scar is barely noticeable. The incision went from her eyebrow down to the end of her nose. Took some time for healing of course, but she looks fine now. What a double whammy for you. Glad you had the eyebrows done first, you can enjoy them as you recover from the basal cell excision. Good luck!

Anne Louise, So glad you AND your husband are pleased with your new brows!

The other Anne

Camie, Thanks especially for the close-up photo -- it's amazing technique!

Anne

Camie, how long have you been dealing with FFA?  I can see from your sweet photo that your hairline has receded a bit [I prefer to just call it 'highbrow' now].  But at least you are able to do well without a wig.  I can't help wondering just how far mine will recede.  Have seen some frightening photos on Google searches!  But although I have definitely lost about an inch, center front, and a bit more on the temples, it seems to be progressing much slower than I anticipated.  For which I'm of course very grateful!  Can't help believing the scalp injections are really helping.  I know the inflammation and stinging itch aren't nearly as aggravating.  If you don't mind, I'd really like to hear your story.

Thanks,

Classical Anne
