I've had a pretty terrible experience at my last two visits at my derm. I've been losing hair now about 4 years and my hair line has definitely receded. This derm was condescending and made me feel like I shouldn't even be there. She's supposed to be a specialist in women's hair loss!! I waited a year to see her the first time! I thought I'd give her another shot but it wasn't good. I waited an hour and a half in the waiting room. So by the time I got in there I needed to be able to pick up my daughter. She said I could get a biopsy that day and if not that day, I'd have to wait another four months! So now I'm waiting because they forgot about me in the waiting room! She also told me it was up to me what kind of medicine I wanted her to prescribe me. What doctor says hey it's your choice! I didn't know what to do! Can you take a look at these pics? She says my hairline looks "fine" and some of her other patients would love to have my hair. Made me feel like crap! She also said your hairline can recede with female pattern hair loss. Is that true?
I've lost all baby hair on just one side of my head. Eyebrows are still in tact but are somewhat thinner. My recession keeps moving back but I do have diffuse hair loss. I have itching and pain daily on my scalp for over a year now. She said the itch and pain is not related to hair loss. That is weird! I was surprised to hear her say that. I sure thought it was! There are days where it feels like my hair is dying! My scalp is not red or dry looking. She says it looks normal. I don't know how much you can tell from these photos but any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

The pic came up a bit grainy for me to see any thinning. Your hair looks gorgeous though. You need to find a different doctor. No one deserves to be treated that way. Check the C.A.R.F. Sit for referrals in your area. I only saw one photo. Did you send more than one?

Only see one photo... and your hair does look quite healthy.  Now, that said... I know what it is like to slowly lose hair - and the uncertainty and frustration that comes with that.  Not to mention, the callus manner in which the dermatologist acted - only adds to that frustration.  My derm in NO way "asked" me what medicine I wanted.  When he did the two punch biopsies, and confirmed FFA/LPP - he immediately explained the prognosis, and his treatment tiers.  He is on CARF's website of preferred providers.  I hope that there is someone on that site that is close enough to you so you can get the professional care you deserve.  If you have other photos, send them so we can see a little clearer.

It's hard to say without a comparison to what your hair looked like before you started losing.  And I would be happy to have your hairline.  Having said that,  when I finally got diagnosed in 2015, I looked at pictures of me all the way back to 2006, and now I know I was losing hair since 2007 for sure.  I just never really gave it much attention and thought I needed to eat better or something.  So if you notice it, it's happening.  You need to find another doctor.

I'm not sure why the other pics didn't come through but I will try again.

Without seeing a pic of the previous hairline, it is hard to tell. With my FFA, I have  gouges in the hairline and all the baby hair is gone all around from top of forehead to my ears. These areas are roundish and smooth. From the injections 4 years ago I have a distinct depression in my forehead. This loss happened in a week after I noticed the small circles and went to the derm. The injections really took off a lot of hair. The area where hair was lost is fairer, smoother and plastic looking. It is a noticeable band of lighter skin which is hard to cover with face makeup.  My new hairline has no baby hair and looks very unnatural. You still have some baby hair at the sides by the temple.

Thanks for your input. I'm so frustrated over the biopsy thing. Although my hairline might look fine to others but it has receded about 2 to 3 centimeters. I don't have any baby hairs on one half of my frontal hair line anymore and you can see straight through. I have to use toppik on that side everyday now. My temples have receded some as well. But above my temples have receded the most.

You probably have the FFA but it is taking a different form than mine. I could only woner what would have been the result today if I did not do the injections.

Here are two more if they come through. Sorry for poor quality. You see where one side of my hair line is receding? Then both the triangles on both sides are bad too. I think I'm gonna have to find a new dermatologist. I hate not knowing.

momto1, it's hard to tell by your pictures if you are in the early stages of ffa.  The best way I can describe my ffa hairline is moth-eaten.  My ffa started with losing the baby hair around my face, and my hairline became jagged with a white line around my face where the hair used to be.  You definitely should seek out another doctor.  My dermatologist of more than 15 years told me that it's normal for our hair to thin with age, and asked me all kinds of questions about my relatives' hairlines..  He tried to send me home without taking a look at my hairline.  I had to get between him and the door and force him take a look at the bald, shiny patches on my head.  I saw 2 more doctors before I finally had a diagnosis. I sincerely hope you don't have ffa, but it may take some diligence on your part to find a doctor willing to do a biopsy so you can find out for sure.  Good luck to you.

Here is my best attempt at showing you my hairline. I can't show you above my ear now because my small hair pieces are in, but that area is totally gone and is very white, much like a scar looks (no pun intended). The hairline gets very uneven/jagged with pockets of missing hair. Mine wasn't always like this. I've been losing hair for 5 years. It tends to mive a bit slow for many... If there's anything "good" about it.
