I am interested in getting a topper but don't know where to go for one. Having one of those weeks when the hair keeps falling and I am not feeling very comfortable. I don't want to spend a lot of money. Thinking of ordering off the internet. Please provide me with suggestions. Don't know where to start. Thanks !

I think toppers are the way to go. I started by buying cheap items, different styles and hair quality, just to see what I wanted. At the same time I researched on line and got to know a bit about wigs, toppers, different hair types, etc. I found it impossible to get the right colour. One uh hah moment was when I realized that a full wig could be cut down to make a topper and I have been wearing a synthetic one from Germany that cost me $28. It is surprisingly good. I had to sew clips into the back and I use tape at the front. You have to be really careful removing the tape at night because if you do it wrong you remove hair as well. I now remove it with eucalyptus oil and clean the area with Isocol (alcohol) in the morning. You want a topper that comes down to your ears. If your hairline is now behind your ears as mine is this is more a concern than a high forehead. I now have a European hair one that a lady who sells extensions and wigs ordered for me. It cost $85. I'm still figuring out how to style it so it's a work in progress at the moment. It is close to my colour but a bit too dark. I believe that with this lady's help I can end up with a really good topper made just for me but next time she will have some of my hair to send to the people who put the toppers together and I will have a much better idea of just what I want. She took photos of my hair but I don't think her lighting was all that good. Oh, and, the first couple of days that I wore the topper it felt horrid, itchy and foreign. Now I forget all about it, unless I'm focussing on it, as I am now. Time to take it off and go to bed. After all is said and done it's nice to just be yourself.

Hi Leni. Check out this website...Lauren has tons of information regarding toppers and wigs. I haven't made the leap yet, but I do enjoy her blog. Her confidence with her "helper hair" is refreshing.

Thanks I just checked it out. She's adorable and I love her spirit. I think I just need to take the plunge and try something. I didn't know about color and style. Lots to decide upon with color, style, length etc.. wish me luck.

Yes, there are so many options...somewhat intimidating, which is probably why I haven't done it yet. :) Good luck!

So true, tons of options for toppers and lots of youtube tutorials and reviews for toppers too- I got a human hair topper from Uniwig based on Lauren from Hope & Mane's review when it was on sale for a huge discount- It looks great and is an almost perfect match for my hair color and is amazingly light and sits well on my head.  Another option, well at least to read about toppers & wigs is this place, lots of great tips and reviews and blogs, it is a UK site https://www.simplywigs.co.uk

But saying all that, my topper  is still sitting on its little stand on my dressing table as now I wear my hair with my natural wave/curl the majority of the time and the topper is straight and I just haven't gotten around to having it cut to match my hairstyle and to be honest not sure if I ever will!  I guess it can be permed to give it a little wave and of course they can be colored to match your hair color- but after having it for a while- I am not sure if I am an every day topper person.

Another but here! But saying that- maybe I should just get it cut the next time I go in for my own hair cut and keep it for very bad hair days or for special occasions, since I already have it- or I have also been thinking of donating it to the oncology dept at my local hospital, better for it to be put to use then sitting on my dressing table doing nothing!

I think I would not be an everyday user either. I have worse days than others. I seem to be in a shedding phase right now and I think it's all stress related because I just went back to work and my kids are back to school. Always a hectic and chaotic time which really puts me on edge. I need to color my hair right now, but worries me that more will shed. Thought a topper would by me a little time with that as well.

I also have curly wavy hair, so didn't know which way to go with style. Perhaps two options were needed in this case.

I thought about going to a wig store and trying some on and then having a better idea of style and color, I would know what to get.

We shall see.

I have gone to a couple of wig stores hoping to get some help as well.  I just want to look like "me"  again!  They were not very helpful.  I have short blond hair and the last one I tried put a long jet black wig on me.  I left pretty discouraged!

You can order "Uniwigs" off the internet.  They are really nice human hair top pieces that are much more affordable than most wig shops. They make a Uniwig Claire Remy Human Hair Lace Front Topper in many different colors.   Good luck.

I got the same topper from Uniwigs when they had a 30% off sale, it just keeps me company on its little stand on my dressing table- as I still have not gotten it cut to match my hair.  But, it is much lighter on my head then I thought it would be and the hair/color looks great and the human hair toppers/wigs can be colored to match your own hair - though it is a bit shiny, I do vaguely remember reading somewhere that if you use baby powder it will cut down on the shine.
