Has anyone tried this procedure? They draw your own blood, separate out the platelets using a centrifuge, then inject the platelets back into your scalp. Apparently it is used for all sorts of things like arthritis and injuries as well. I have been reading about it as a treatment for hair loss, although there is not a lot of info. out there. There is a doctor that does this not far from me, considering going to see him. TIA!

Hi April, I did quite a few sessions of this with a cosmetic Dr when I was first diagnosed 2 years ago. I wanted to try everything that was available and the Dr I saw had had good success with some men with male pattern baldness but it was her first time trying with FFA. I didn't notice any difference with the redness or hair loss - it was ok for about the first 10 injections each time, but I was always crying by the end (around 24-26 injections) and the price alone was enough to bring tears to my eyes! I abandoned it after 5 sessions as I wasn't seeing any change, and to be honest, the pathophysiology of FFA would suggest that the effectiveness would be limited anyway. But I'm not sorry I gave it a go! Good luck
Thank you, Natalie. Really helpful! Wow, sounds quite horrible actually. Have you found any other treatments helpful??

I  take Doxycycline to manage the itch/redness and use Regaine in an attempt to keep my eyebrows. Keeping things in perspective and having a positive attitude goes a long way, and I will look at hair pieces when it gets worse over the next few years. All the best

Yes! A positive attitude goes a long way with hair loss. I have good days and not so good, but talking to other women who are keeping positive is so helpful. Thanks: )

PRP is very painful!  I even had doctor do it on my eyebrows...ouch!

I looked into this over this past summer. Dr. Greco in Sarasota is one of the best for using PRP for hair loss. HOWEVER, HE is the one who looked at my scalp and told me to get a biopsy as he suspected FFA (he was right). He told me straight up that PRP would not work for FFA or any kind of scarring alopecia. Also told me that hair transplant would not work either. So I didn't waste my money there and invested in a semi permanent hair piece which I am now totally in love with. I get so many compliments on my hair now! I'm happy I went that direction. Best wishes to you!

What kind of hair piece did you get and where did you get it?
