I have just signed up to run the Mardis Gras Rock 'n Roll Marathon in New Orleans this upcoming February! I am soooo excited! I have ran 2 half-marathons in the past, but this will be my first full marathon. Ever since I have lost all my hair (which has been about 7 months now), I love running even more because I don't have to bother with sweaty hair getting in my way! I just run with a baseball cap over my bald head (so the sweat doesn't drip in my eyes), and it is so comfortable. Any advice from fellow marathoners out there?? Thanks!

Ahhhh...the good and the bad news hey? Isn't it always the way just when you think it's all good? Obviously you're the eternal optimist signing up for 2 half marathons, I'm betting the wheelchair is looking pretty inviting with a stress fracture in your foot :) My shoulder is still refusing to heal and is really annoying, but I'm continuing the running - or should I say shuffling? - and enjoying it very much. Got to count my blessings....

Pat ... I have good news. My heel is much better! I have signed up for two, yes TWO, half marathons. I have bad news. I have a stress fracture in the same foot and now am limping along. I suppose I could use crutches, or better yet, a wheel chair? Such is life in the right hand lane. I have come across a new milestone in my life, my golf game is now faster that running my 13.2 miles. It was going to happen sooner or later! Stay tuned! :)

Thanks David and sorry to hear about your heel...I used to run a lot myself and now just do about 20 minutes or so on the treadmill...but I've just done 3 road runs this week and there's definately a difference between that and a tready and I feel muscles I haven't felt in a while. I'm now going to do road running instead of the tready. I have feel trouble [bunions..ouch] and it limits me for doing longer runs although I wear a bunion protector and it helps a lot. Ahhh the gracefulness of getting older :(

To be truthful, I am not active in Yoga but do a considerable amout of running; half and some full marathons. What is happening to me is foot injury on my heal. It feels like walking on razor blades. I have been told that the injury is caused by lots of running/walking on hard surfaces like concrete and the only way to stop the problem is to stop running. I have done that some but I am doing more stretching that ever before a long distance run. Good luck on your shoulder problems.

Been on a bit of a downer as I've re-injured my shoulder so have had to stop my yoga classes and have to be very careful at the gym. At first even walking was painful! Now that's not so bad - just got back from and hours walk - but it makes me so mad that just when I start getting back into my fitness I'm back to square one again. Has this happened to anyone else?

Also just want to say I've finally....drum roll...yes finally stopped eating chocolate!! As a chocoholic this is quite something for me...it was nothing for me to eat a family size bar in one sitting..not sure if I'm feeling better for it but it has sure stopped the sugar cravings. Just over 2 months now and still going strong..

I've recommenced yoga classes after nursing a shoulder injury for over a year...I found a very good yoga flow on youtube called dancing warrior..you have to replay it a few times as it only goes for 5 mins or so but it's really lovely and the music is divine. Now I'm up to 2 classes a week plus my own practice plus weight work at the gym so I'm loving it :)
