Thanks for the replies! Actually since the day after I posted this query, I stopped worrying about it completely.I've gone out everyday, everywhere bald. And my confidence is way up from all the compliments I've received from women and men alike! I know this is me and I have nothing to hide, if someone doesn't like it then we aren't meant to be! Thanks again!! Cheers!

In 1995 this conversation did NOT exist at all... and 15 years later it's quite easy to walk into a club and see one or two girls with shaved heads, no matter what city one finds one's self in. And the larger the social scene, the less likely anyone is going to care, let alone stare for too long...
Know what's funny though?! 15 years ago, it was the GUYS wondering if it was okay to ditch the wig, or the bandanna, and go bald in a public place - I swear!! Those Alopecians who "came out" in 1995 will back me up on this ;)
And I will always say - do what you are comfortable with, and always leave that one extra step forward open to you, and a few years from now we look back and can't help but think "why was I so cautious?"
Have a groovy day, and cheers from Montreal!

Flip a coin! =P

Seriously though, if you are feeling better about going out and about bald, why not go to the bars and clubs without the wig?

Folks are going to find out sooner and later. Not to mention you skip the awkwardness if you are ever in a situation where you can't wear your wig...I.E.swim much?

Hi Everyone! I am new to the site, but not new to AA. I have had cycles of hair loss since I was three. My most recent cycle is the most severe amount of loss since my first one. I decided to buy a wig back in December. But as the hair continued to fall out I knew I had to make another big change. Just a few weeks ago I decided to take the plunge and shave the remaining hair and go bald. I go around my house freely and I am starting to go out in public without my wig. Its easy to go on errands and even to go to my classes bald. But I am struggling with going out to clubs and bars and social events without the wig. I want to meet new people, particularly men, and be confident in my own skin. I actually think it may get a few good conversations going, but I also expect to get stares, and questions, and rejection. I'm not sure I am confident enough yet to be able to handle to bad with the good. Along a similar line of thought - I am graduating from college this weekend! My only concern is what do I want my pictures to look like? Will I be happier to look back and see myself natural and bald or confident in a wig? Any suggestions, thoughts or reflection will be helpful!

Krissie, I'm sorry to tell you this, but that just ain't gonna happen. You're brother's pal CAN'T marry you.... cos I got there first!! (Fight!!) I'm just surprised you didn't tell him, and put him out of your misery. (I think that's the expression...?)
Laaaater!!

A funny thing happened to me last weekend...family and friends were all together having a great time...then my brothers best friend looked at me and said, "I'm going to marry you one day". In front of my brother no less! My brother knows of my condition, his friend doesn't...I think my brother is more protective of my secret than I am. But u should have seen my bother's face! LOL.. i wish i had a camera! hahaha
