About Me:: Born with Alopecia Areata, but didn't start REALLY losing my hair until around 1998. I am one of the lucky ones whose hair fell out very, very slowly...so I had a lot of time to prepare before having to purchase my first hair piece (I wear vacuum pieces from New Hair Technology based out of NYC).

I haven't been to a doctor or even tried anything new in a long time, because all of that just upsets me when I'm usually never upset about it! I prefer to just go on with life without worrying about not having any hair. I don't ever go out in public bald, but at the same time I don't keep my Alopecia a secret either. I don't have a problem talking about it, or showing people...i'm just a girly-girl and prefer not to be bald in public.

I'm just starting to lose mine, it's been about 2-3 weeks. Is it different for everyone? i notice a new bald spot everyday or a existing one getting bigger everday. But it seem to be taking its time.

Hi Ashley,
You are beautiful. You don't even look like you are wearing a wig. I have alopecia areata and I don't have much hair left. I am dying to shave it off. I have never wanted to wear a wig but if I have to (for job reasons) I am worried that a wig will look so fake. How and where do you buy yours to look so natural?

First of all, you’re gorgeous! I also wear a vacuum hairpiece and recently found out that the company I go through might be going out of business. I just started looking into alternatives and saw your blurb about New Hair Technology in NYC. I live in Hoboken and work in NYC. Would you recommend this company? I’m pretty active and beat the hell out of the pieces I currently wear. Looking for something that can handle me…

Hey Ashley! Im new on here and was looking at your pics and your hair is awesome. I noticed it said vacuum pieces so is that the kind that suctions on? Is it human hair? I guess you have to be totally bald to wear that but I heard you can swim, shower and everything in that kind. You're so pretty and the braids with the bandana is a neat idea. I have a friend that lives in Atlanta, right near the King and Queen.

Hi Ashley, I feel the same way about going bald in public, although I just had to shave about month now. I also tell anyone who is interested about my condition and show them too. I just ordered a vacuum pcs. From Creative Hair Replacement Hauppauge NY The cost was $1200.00. I will get it in 8 to 10 weeks. I will let you know how good it is.

Hey Ashley! I love your wig! I was wondering if the vacuum sealed wig ever gets itchy or hot? I have thought about getting a vacuum sealed wig but wasn't sure. They were able to put my natural hair in my wig, but I don't have any left.

oooh ok...I ordered mine from "Fullerhair" out of NH...didnt know there were any here in NYC..did you order it blonde or did you have to highlight it? I want mine blonde, but they said for 12 inches..they could only do light blonde. Im afraid if I highlight it too much, Ill damage it.

Hi Ashley. I'm new to Alopecia World and I was really struck by your photo. I would honestly never realize that you were wearing a wig....you look absolutely beautiful. I'm currently in contact with Carmen from Peggy Knight Solutions about getting a vacuum wig. Did you ever consider them or did you only consult with new hair tech? I'm just wondering if quality and everything is the same. I think they quoted me something like $4500....does this seem right to you? Also, if you don't mind me asking....are they your real eyebrows? Hey Ashley... I was looking at your pictures and noticed you had a few from good ol Jordan Hare Stadium. War Eagle!!! I'm actually graduating from Auburn's vet school in May. I'm back up in Louisville now but miss it down there already. (the weather at least...lol) Anyway, saw you lived in ATL now, you should get in contact with Jeremy. I live in Atlanta also and don't know a soul besides myself with alopecia. Your hair looks awesome. All the wigs I have ever worn have bangs because I was afraid people would be able to spot the wig a mile away. Yours looks incredible. I would love to have more info about it if you are willing. I share your approach to Alopecia. I also have not sought treatment in a long time. I am comfortable with myself and this disease, and all of the disappointments in trying different medications upsets me as well.

Just wanted to say that it seems like you have a similar story to mine :) ive been AU for 3 years now! I gave up on the medications a long time ago, although i am still on the list for the National Institute of Health here in Bethesda MD in case they have some breakthru on the disease.

Thanks, Ashley. I think I'm going to stick with the regular wigs right now, especially since summer is coming and I don't know about the heat. However, I just got my brows and eyeliner tattooed this week and I'm LOVIN' it!!!! Will post pictures soon! Thanks so much!

Hey, thanks for responding! You have no idea how much better it makes me feel to see women like you on here who still look amazing and do what they want!
So I got my first 2 spots about a year ago and the steroid injections worked. But now I'm getting several more and my dermatologist told me that the shots sometimes dont always work. So I'm pretty nervous about that! How did yours start out? Also I would be VERY interested in where you get your hair it looks great! They look so real and very cute!

Hi Ashley - your wigs look great. Also loving your approach to not seeking treatment and just enjoying your life as it is - that's how I want to go about things. Worrying too much about trying to fix something that might not be fixable is exhausting.
