About Me:: I have had Alopecia Areata since 2006 & it's my mission to break down the walls of shame surrounding our disease. I tell anyone and everyone about Alopecia.

I prefer it all being out in the open and that way it allows people to freely ask me their questions or share their concerns. Don't get me wrong, I still feel uncomfortable, scared, angry and confused sometimes. It's taken quite some time for me to get to this space that I'm in today. Without the support of the UNBELIEVABLE & AMAZING people in my life, I would not have the strength to cope with this unexpected twist in my journey...

Hey Becka! Thanks for your reply! I am definitely trying to find my place with alopecia but having a really hard time with it right now. Most days I find it difficult to look in the mirror without crying my eyes out. I know one day I will learn to accept this condition in my own time. Hopefully it will be sooner than later :). Thanks Becka. Having such a supportive community of friends on here is the only way I am learning to deal with my alopecia. Seems like tiny tiny baby steps forward and then huge steps back right now. I do know it will eventually get better! Do you still have your brows and lashes? Both of those here seem to be fading as well :(. Watched the video and you did great, I hope more and more realize that they are not alone and that they can still be beautiful and do what the want even without hair. maybe one day seeing a bald woman will be as widely accepted as bald men.thanks agian you did an awesome job and i hope all is well. :o)

You're video is phenomenal. Thank you. And, thank you for being such a great ambassador. I realize, too, that I got something out of it because I share your feelings and maybe others will benefit from knowing that. I too cried for a year every single day (and night). I too took two years to stop crying all together. I too felt sexless. I was known for my hair. Now what? All I can say is it took a long time to get used to this. Sure, I still wish I didn't have alopecia but it is what it is. Knowing there are others who share our feelings is a tremendous help. Every time I read a comment and feel a connection to it, I know I'm not alone and have support and kinship when I need it.

I just saw your pictures and I think you are amazing. I will be shaving my head in less than 2 weeks (hair loss is out of control) and seeing you makes me believe that I can do it also. I do have a question for you. I saw your cute scarves and I was just wondering what kind they are? I'm in the US so I may not have to same type of stores but this whole scarf buying is new to me and I think you look so beautiful in yours.

It's nice to be here, thanks for suggesting it. I never would have joined if you didn't say anything about it. You're a huge inspiration to people with the way you've handled your Alopecia, it's really amazing, and you can see it here in people's comments. It's inspiration that I never had growing up, and although I got through it, the road was rough and I did it alone. I may have put it all behind me, but the experiences will always be with me and if I can help someone feel better about themselves, then it was all worth it. Thank you for telling me about Alopecia World.
