About Me:
I was diagnosed in 2011 and had one spot that grew back within 8 months. In February 2012, I found that I had 8 spots on my head. Now...2 are new, not possible to hide, and getting bigger every day. I was also recently diagnosed with vitiligo which I understand is related.

I feel overwhelmed...and overwhelming for the people in my life.
Honestly...I am scared.

My fear doesn't define me, but it does add to the roller coaster that is my life right now. I am confident I will get through a better person and at the same time I feel like a toddler who is just learning to walk. I would love to find a few people to hold my hand along the way.

I like hiking and going to festivals in the summer. I am a strange mix of a data driven scientist and a free spirit one-love type. I consider it well-rounded :)

Hi Gia! I don't think that there's any right way of living with alopecia. I've had it for so long, and it was under control for so long, that I tend to forget about it. However, I have been wearing hair extensions for probably about 8-9 years. I would have bald spots that I cover by making my hair fuller. I was never bothered by this. I recently lost my hair and eyelashes and at the moment I am mostly comfortable with wearing beanies or hoodies. I am not going for a wig. At least not now. I want to look at the situation square in the eye and deal with it.
The most important thing is your comfort whether it's a wig, a hat, a scarf or a bucket on your head, just go for it. Being comfortable made my hair grow for years.

Hey there. Coping? Much better than 7 months ago! When the hair started falling out I cried every night. Loved going to work just b/c it kept my mind off reality. Once I would get home the wig would come off and the bald head was a slap in the face. Done all the creams, injections, cleansing diets ect. I've recently just became comfortable with myself. My husband still stays optimistic for me. There are still times I stare at my head and face wishing for hair to return and find the answer as to "why me?" but that passes quickly. I go wigless only in my house and at the gym. Waiting on a Freedom Wig, which I hear is wonderful for people AU like myself. Hope all is well in your world. Ever need to state your frustrations or concerns with this thing holler at me. Take care.
