Eyebrow tattooing
So I have set a appointment to get my eyebrows tattooed on Sept 18th. I lost half of my left eyebrow, and a huge chunk of the right one. I have never had much eyebrow in the beginning, so they are almost all gone! I found a make-up tattoo artist in my area that has nothing but great reviews and she even personally called me yesterday. She seems super sweet and says she worked with quite a few people with alopecia. My question is to all of my fellow alopecians that have had this done already. What can I expect from it? How does it feel? How long does it last, because I hear it does start to fade. The woman that is doing it says she doesn't use black ink on anyone because its too dark, which I guess is good. Because I already had blonde highlights in my eyebrows. Apparently she uses a "feathering" technique and uses my eyebrows (well, whats left) as a guide, that way if they do grow back, they will just look fuller. Any info on eyebrow tattooing is GREATLY appreciated!!

Thanks so much! For the great tip too. I wonder if 99% alcohol will do the trick too. That's what I hear people remove glue from their heads with. I did buy the eyebrows so I'll let you know what I think once I get them. My only anxiety about it is that I have some still left. Only about 1/4 on each side. I cling to each and every piece of hair I have now! But, seems I'll have to remove them to use these. One thing I do know..penciling in is just not working out so good for me.

Checked out the site!!! awsome! gonna try again with the eyelashes I think. Now using liquid eyeliner to cover eyelash line on both eyes. It works well actually. But I do want to try again like I said with the eyelashes. So hard though. Thank you so much for the link. Saw some things i really liked!

Wow! Thank you for this information Mrs. G....My eyelashes are gone and I've tried and tried to keep fake ones on and this will help. They always lift up on the inside of the eye so I'm going to print out your instructions and try it...

I got mine done a year and a half ago and they still look great. They are shaped better than my real eyebrows and I think they look better.They have a nice arch that my natural ones didn't. Get her to pencil them in they way you want them before you get it done and don't worry too much about staying in the same shape as your other ones. If they grow back, just shape them around your new ones.
I hated losing my eyebrows more than anything because I couldn't draw them in and they look weird missing but I love my tattos. They are dark for the first week so be prepared to wear sunglasses a lot!!! Good Luck!!

The day my eyebrows began to fall out was the day I booked my appointment and never looked back!! It was the best thing I have ever done it is very natural looking and the shape is awesome! I bought emla cream which is a topical numbing cream b/c I was worried it would hurt and put it on for 2 hours before and during the tatooing I would say it was 1/10 for any pain! I went too light the first time as I was blonde and wear blond wigs and had to go for a touch up with darker ink which I like better. I did the feathering too and it is like perfect little individual hairs! Good luck you will love them!

Hi Tamara. My name is Valerie and I have alopecia universalis and have had this condition for three years. I also lost my eyelashes and eybrows. I had my eyebrows tattoed about a year and a half ago. So glad, I did. I hated trying to use pencil. The lady that did mine was awsome. She played around with some different styles...took pictures until I found the one I liked. The tattooing itself was not as bad as I thought. However, it will look a little weird and red. May also not look like the color at first. Don't panic! It does take time for the pigment to set. Mine started to fade I guess after about a year. It was suggested to get a touch-up maybe once a year. Just be careful with the color. Very important to look natural. I now use a light brow pencil to fill it in. Hope this info helps and good luck!

I got mine done almost 2 yrs ago, definatly made the right choice! The color is very dark when you first get them done, and fades with time. I have to get mine done again. Feathering is a great look, mine are not feathered. The artist I used wasn't great. So I am glad they faded ; )

Thank you everyone for your replies! I have been coloring them in with a MAC pencil (which I sweat off every 2-4 hours) and I sometimes put eyebrow powder over it, but it still just wipes away. The appointment got moved up to this saturday (the 11th) since she had an opening. I can't wait!
