I'm sorry if this is TMI...but since shaving my head on Sunday, my scalp is really dry! I can't believe it! It is peeling all over it, like how you peel after a sunburn. It's not red, not itchy, and doesn't hurt. It's just peeling!

I'm still using shampoo because I still have 1/4" of hair in some places :)

Should I stop using shampoo? What should I use?

THANKS!!!

I just wash my head with my face cleanser, then put sensitive skin moisturiser all over it. I even use my facial scrub on it sometimes!
i wash my bald head with noxema - just like it is my face. mind you though im totally AU - so no hair at all. i dont think you need shampoo though, i would stick with dove or oil of olay bar soap - its softer on the skin than soap.
I don't have to shave anymore, but I just use plain bar soap, and then I put the same moisterizer I use on my face all over my head - Lubriderm.
I use Caress Soap to wash then moisturize with Aveno moisturizer.
If this condition doesnt get better see your derm.
I use Aloe Vera shampoo to keep my scalp smooth...dont use soap coz it will make it more dry.
I haven't had to shave since it all just kind-of fell off so haven't really had problems with peeling or any of those things that happen with shaving. I have continued to use a basic shampoo and that seems to help keep my scalp from getting too itchy. Wish there was something I could do about how oily my head and forehead seems to get, though?!
I use the same shower gel I use for my body (which varies usually between something from Bath & Body Works and Dove Cream Oil Body Wash) - and I use the same moisturizer for my face on my head. Normally I use Prescriptives All You Need Moisturizer for Oilier Skin (which is fabulously light and doesn't clog pores), but lately I've been using the Patricia Wexler, M.D. MMPI 20 Regenerative Serum from Bath & Body Works. It's a pink gel and you only use just a dab -- a pea-sized amount is way too much -- and it leaves your skin feeling like velvet and super moisturized!

Since what I use can be pricey, you can always go with the gold standard -- Johnson's Baby Lotion -- you can't go wrong with that at all; plus you smell nice and sweet like a baby too!!

Hope all that information helps!!

P.S. If you still have enough hair where you can use shampoo, why not try using a shampoo for African-American hair?? Optimum Care works great!!
I have no problem of dryness on my scalp because i have pretty oil skin, especially on the scalp. I like using facial wash on my head, but then I think it is quite expensive to do so on a regular basis, so I just use normal body soap. I would like to suggest if you could rub some topical vitamin E oil, on your scalp or some baby oil. It should help to keep the skin on your head healthy. Take care.

your oils will need to adjust on your head, i found mine very pimply after. but I am totally bald now (have been for years) and shampoo my head every day or so, so the shampoo should not be drying it out, if you are worried about that just use a more moisturizing one. good luck :)
Oh I LOVE those exfoliating gloves!!! I got a pair at the Body Shop a long time ago and they are fabulous!!! They work too -- I have yet to have an acne breakout on my super-oily head (which is super-oily like my skin; thanks Daddy for giving me oily Mexican skin!!!)

Make sure if you are using a facial cleanser, though, to check and make sure you are using one for sensitive skin until you know whether or not your skin on your head will react to it or not.
I use VERY watered-down moisturizing shampoo that doesn't contain phophates, etc. I think this version of shampoo cleans my scalp better than facial cleansers but it's gentle and doesn't dry my skin.

What should I use if I am holding out hope that my hair grows back? (I'm new to AA, and just shaved my head 2 days ago since so much had fallen out). I feel like using lotions might clog my pores and inhibit new growth? For now I am using sulfate free shampoo and not putting any lotions on top. Thanks for your advice!
