So I finally bought a wig. I went to an actual wig salon to talk to the ppl there, they mostly dealt with synthetic wigs and they were all adjustable one size fits all types....the reason I bought the wig is because I have a condition with my adrenal glands (so the doctors say) and there is some hope that with treatment my hair could grow back. I still have some hair so I couldn't get a gripper or vaccuum and I figured that for a 1st wig I should spend less and get used to wig process...the wig cost me $300 which is doable but when it came it wasn't exactly what I wanted, I'm ok with that (you live you learn). But my issues are my condition is not covered by insurace so I have to pay for the whole thing keeping that in mind if the treatments don't work or its found that I don't have the condition thought (I've been misdiagnosed a lot) then I need to look at a permanent solution....I have an EXTREMELY sensitive scalp and the wig itches immensely as the day goes on...I've only worn it one full day and by nite time I had my thumbs lifting the lacefront area to scratch my hair line every few minutes....in the future how can people who still have some hair find a wig that is comfortable and realistic? Something that is snug and give the ability of doing everything I want. The lady who had gone through chemo herself and was an avid wig wearer told me swimming, gym, jetskiing were things no wig would do well (I know there are ppl who do these things in wigs and id love to hear from you)....what should I expect to pay, where should I go...Any suggestions on brands, or types....do I want monfilament....lacefront....handwefted? Are there wigs for people with scalp conditions tha have flaking and itching scalps that won't aggrevate the issues?? I legit need all of you to walk me through this lol

Thanks girlies

I think everyone needs to experiment and find what works best for them. After over 40 years of experience with alopecia, I found what works best for me, thanks in most part to the Internet opening up the opportunity to buy world-wide. After wearing custom-sized, full-lace, human hair, I could never go back to synthetics.

I think the lady you spoke to was right in part. No wig is going to last very long if you use it for under water swimming, hardcore gym exercise, and jet skiing. I use my old synthetics for that or just wear a do-rag and ball cap. I hever jet ski, so can't speak to that. lol

I agree with Lori. Each person has to find what works best for them. I wear synthetics, and I love them. I love the ease of them or as we like to call it, "plop & go". If you aren't wearing anything over your hair, try wearing a mesh wig cap. That might help. The more you wear it, the more you will get used to it. With exercising & swimming, I wear a hat or a scarf or go bald.

Hi ladies ,

I'd Like to introduce myself;Barbara Kelly. I have been a makeup artist in the entertainment business for over 35 years and invested in being the "go to" person for many shows and celebrities for image updates. There seems to be many of us but I am the real deal LOL!!!!!
I joined this forum because I enjoy helping people. My family has been in the wig business for 100 yrs I myself am not a Wigmaker but a beauty expert.
My friend and partner in the entertainment business has AA and we have done numerous eyebrow shows and Makeover's for many people outside of what we always do.

What I can tell you about wigs is the technology is getting better with aeration " To supply with air or expose to the circulation of air" of wigs so you feel more comfortable. You don't have to make a career out of Wig shopping just find something inexpensive and temporary that has great style. One thing I have notice about the inexpensive wigs is that the ears are covered;there are good wig people that can alter that issue so your ears are exposed without ruining the wig. That helps with heat factor.

My best advice is to bring a friend to a wig shop or salon and try on for comfort and fit and style and do not let anyone wigmaker talk you into anything you are not 100 percent happy with, because it's about wasting good money and then shelving it. They are in the business.
I have run across some terrific wigs light airy and synthetic that are exquisite.

Thank you all for reading this and if you need any advice I am very happy to share my knowledge. Let's keep the conversation going;I love reading your stories.

I can definitely hit the gym in my bonded on hair system, but I won't go underwater in a pool, probably wouldn't jet ski either, but I think I could manage a roller coster. I can basically do anything that won't loosen the glue.

Did you try giving it a good washing? That may help with the itch-factor.

Hello - I'm new to the sight and just trying to figure it all out. Under "Groups", I saw a group that said "Understanding Wigs" and has lots of information.
Good luck.

Try a cotton wig cap. They are much softer than nylon caps.

Try wearing a soft wig cap under the wig to minimize the wig shifting and the itching Also make sure the wig fits! Sometimes people have smaller head sizes and need a petite size rather than normal...monofilament front looks the most natural, but are also the nmost expensive...Lace fronts are nice, but over rated and they wear out easily. Wigs that are hand tied are the softest caps and not too expensive...have a goiod fit because of the stretchability of cap. Any heat over 200 degrees farenheit is hard on synthectic wigs...stay away from the oven, curling irons etc....don't put alot of product on them. Good luck!
