Pregnancy with alopecia - Does it get worse or better?

So been dealing with losing my hair since Oct. I also started losing my hair on eyebrows and eyelashes and nose in Feb. Just found out we were pregnant and wondering what I am in for.

Congratulations. You are in for happy times. As far as hairloss is concerned, it sounds like you're still in the early stages, but it is progressing pretty quick. I've had AU since my son was born 7 years ago, but had AA since I was 7-years-old. The hormonal changes do effect it, but things are really uncertain whether it will go one direction or another. With my daughter, I had a huge spot on top when she was born, and by the time she was 6 months old it was totally grown back in. By her 1st birthday, it started to fall out again, and it took about 3 years for it to totally fall out with my son's birth. I wish I could give you some better news, but this is what I have for you. Please let me know if I can help in other ways. Your child will adore you whether you have hair or not. My son likes rubbing my head before bed, and occasionally gives it a kiss. Congratulations again. What a great reason to celebrate.
Thanks so much. I know alopecia is so unpredictable. I was just wanted to hear some stories good or bad.
Hello I have a question?
Am 22 I've had AA since I was 10. I stopped treatment About 5 yrs ago I just got married last December
I want to get pregnant now so I was wondering if having alopecia will be a problem for me to become pregnant or if I need to take meds? Or does me have AA wont be a problem?
The hormones caused my hair to be thick through childbirth and nursing. I do not know what caused it to fall out again after a 15-year hiatus, late 30s. I suspect stress from mother-in-law! :)
Hilarious. Mother -in-law caused alopecia. Love it... :)
Congrats Michelle! Enjoy this time. Its special.
I'm assuming that like with everything else it will be different for everyone. However, maybe not. I had a good amount of growth come in while I was pregnant with my daughter and then after having her my hair started falling out again and continued until I had nothing left. Hopefully that doesn't happen to you but CONGRATS!! on the pregnancy. That's so exciting!! :D
Michelle,

You are in for a path unique to you, and that is probably the only certainty.

My own experience is like Deeann's - AA since I was 8, reappearred post-partum and took 18 months to progressivley become AU. Some friendly suggestions I have received since suggest getting pregnant to re-grow my hair! Nevertheless, I am happily bald and a parent of one. Being a mum is far more rewarding than having hair so whichever path your alopecia chooses to follow, know that if it progresses, you can be a blissfully happy mother, recieving sweet kisses on your shiny head, chasing a 3 year old who has ran off with your wig, and find the strength to appreciate all the other good things in your life.

Putting that aside, I think there is a fair amount of anecdotal evidence that hormones affect alopecia, I know of many cases where it has decided to grow back with pregnancy, and fall out with pregnancy. Just treat your mind and body well, receive adequate nutrition, vitamins, rest and lots of love, and let your body do what it was made to do xx.
I have AU & my eyebrows grew in both my pregnancies :) it was amazing. I had full eyebrows. Sadly once my boys were born they fell back out. You never know what all could happen. Good luck!

COngrats. how is the baby right now? Hope it wont pass.

If you are worried about your condition or and concerned that it may be caused by an underlying health condition, seek medical advice.
