I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.
I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.
Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.
The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.
I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

I take two pils each 12 hours so basically in the morning and evening but I make sure there is 12 hours between. If anyone is looking for Xeljanz please let me know. I am going to Turkey soon to source Xeljanz. Take care.
This is after 8 months. Using my phone so this the best for now.
What dosage are you taking? How's the scalp, and your side effects?
4 a day split with triamcinolone acetone and monoxidil.
Scalp is slower. Looks like I may have male patern baldness.
My side effects are higher cholesterol and a few extr pounds. The extra weight is likely the holidays not Xeljanz.
I also have not gone to gym in a while. I have hypothyroidism and it turn out to be a great excuse for being fat and lazy. Lol
FYI I am greatfull for Xeljanz but I want more results.
I forgot on big side effect, my nails are stronger. I have not had problems with my nails after, maybe 3 months on Xeljanz.
That alone is reason anuff for me to take Xeljanz. I shouldn't have forgotten that fact. I am so greatfull for the Xeljanz option. For years there was nothing. DpCP worked but I could not stick with the program. Stopped maybe 6 months into the application of DPCP. Hair with color grew but thin hairs.Overall growth was thicker but I was younger and lighter. Feel like I am ranting.
I got Hashimoto -> Hypothyroid too. Extra weight too. AA and Hashimoto are not unrelated. They both come from the autoimmune system.
It would be interesting to have data how both of them progress together. I got a few data points on my Anti-TPO and Anti-TG and they seem to be going down.
Hi Newjack.
I saw a later post where you said you were waiting on approval for Xeljanz. Pfizer has a Xeljanz card where you get three free months a year. Maybe you should get that process going while you wait for your insurance to come through. Not only that, but if you show progress at three months it may be more likely that they accept the prescription in event of you having to appeal it...which I think most people do. They also have a hardship program if you qualify.
Hi, Christopher's mom, My daughter has taken Xeljanz 5mg twice a day.for three weeks. How long did Christopher take it before seeing hair grow from scalp, eye brow and eyelashes?
Did his hairs grow evenly? How long to take for hair to cover the whole head? How long did he take it before developing acne? Sorry for so many questions. Thanks and have a wonderful Holiday !
