I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

you are beautiful

Fantastic progress! So happy for you!  Your hair looks beautiful!

Do you know if you have Androgenic Alopecia?  I had AA and all of my patches have filled in, but now I have thinning on sides and front as well and was told by Dermatologist who did a biopsy that this is now Androgenic....Wondering if Xeljanz works on that as well.  I only take 5mg twice a day.

So, after looking closely at the labels on Xeljanz that's offered in other countries I noticed that the 56 packet box says its 5mg tofacitinib citrates = 5 tofacitinib where as the 60 5 mg bottle I have say 8 mg tofacitinib citrates=5 tofacitinib. Can anyone tell me what the difference means? I don't think that it's the same strength. Any comments out there?

Those of you that live in a country outside of Canada and the USA, can you tell me if you are using the xeljanz that comes in the package of 56 tablets. I really appreciate your responses. I'm planning on going out of the country for some but all I can find is the packages with 56 tablets, I wonder why that was what the other countries approved opposed to the bottle of 60 we get here and in Canada. Thank you, I'm probably posting too many questions but my insurance just denied me and I'm beginning to feel desperate.

Hi Carlie! I just got pills from Turkey. It is 56 pills package and it looks different than one in US.

I live in Switzerland and here we have 60 pills package.

anybody else here from Switzerland?

Hi JG,  can I ask how much is xeljanz in Switzerland please ?

1400CHF

I am buying from Turkey and I use 56. It's all good.

Has anyone been diagnosed with Androgenic Alopecia try Xeljanz?  I had AA 4 years ago and since on Xeljanz all of my patches have filled in.  Now I have thinning on the sides and after a biopsy dermatologist told me I now have androgenic alopecia....wasn't sure if Xeljanz will work for that or not.  I also have RA, so I am still on the 5mg tablets twice a day.

Hi all, it's been a while since I posted (Dec 17 I think). I am sorry for that. I will be more active in the future. Here is my update.

I've been on Xeljanz for 13 months now. The first 3 months on 10mg/day and the next 10months on 20mg/day.

I have had re-growth also in beard (75%) which is not in the photos and 95% on my eyebrows. I have developed few new spots while I am re-growing which to my understanding talking to doctors is something that could happen and it's ok.
