HI Everyone- I have recently been diagnosed with Lichen PlanoPilaris- a form of scarring alopecia. This is on top of a bad run of AA where about the bottom 1/3 of my scalp is bare as a baby's ass.

The Doc gave me an Rx of prednisone- which may help the inflammation in the potentially scarring pahse slow down ore stop completely.

My questions to anyone here would be how soon did you get your case diagnosed and were any attempts to cease the inflammation working? Did you find any regrowth in the areas after treatments?

My real issue is, do I stay on Prednisone for 6 weeks, grow back a bit of hair in 12 weeks, then watch the whole cycle start again- OR just bean my melon now and be done with it. I feel like a zombie on this drug- but my knees feel great, I am hungry all the time :-)

Any discussion or experiences would be welcome!

NAother question?? Do Black folks get the scarring types more often than other ethnicities? I was reading ablut keloid scarring in african americans- maybe that is a genetic thing with the scarring Alopecias? Just trying to understand some of the origins and outcomes..

Thanks

Craig

There aren't a lot of us scarring alopecians, huh? Well, soon I'll order one of those great t-shirts and see how many strangers react to it. That should be fun. I have an appt. on the 27th for a series of shots should I choose to take them. My balding spots are still here and I'm slowly but surely accepting that this is now the new me. I haven't had any sad spells in awhile which is great because I don't like being sad. Such a downer! Heehee I made a funny. ;p

Is anyone going to the CARF conference?

It seems to me that once that scarring alopecia can sneak up on you pretty easy because the symptoms usually start out small hiding under your healthy hair. I believe it needs weekly medical attention.
