Hi there. I'm always interested in health and alternative medicine, and am curious to hear your thoughts as I'm researching and completing my book on alopecia. I'm curious about success stories and healthy living.

For me, my hair came back spontaneously when I was 14 (without lifestyle changes or medication). I haven't specifically tried anything to grow hair, but I do eat well, have acupuncture treatments, do yoga...and no hair to speak of right now.

I would love to talk with you if you are interested in participating in my research. The book is about inspiration...where we are and how we get there. I think taking control of medical choices is one of the first steps we take when dealing with the unpredictability of alopecia. Please friend me here on AW if you'd like to talk or e-mail me at

If there was a common cause of stress then I would say yes...but there are many people with alopecia who had no stress when they got aa. Maybe once they find the trigger we will be able to treat it but until then there's no cure. I was under a great deal of stress for approx a year before my aa maybe it was a factor. When it grew back I was still under the same stressful situation. When I lost my hair the second time I was under very little stress. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.

I am often thinking about reasons of alopecia. Why it is happiens with me? It was said , the great reason is a stress, but there are a lot of persons, who have stress ,but they have no alopecia.
I had much stress before alopecia started .
There are a lot of persons , who had a very good life without stress, but they have alopecia.
I think, there are a lot of reasons of alopecia , if they come together, the disaster starts.
What do the others think ?
Can a life without much stress help to avoid alopecia ?
But it is very difficult to avoid stress.

Hey all! Nice to e-meet you! Jennifer, I've done Insanity for a couple of years off and's a great work out but some of the moves are tough on my neck. So, I jog in place and watch Shawn T during those. I love to run, but admit to being a fair-weather-runner and the only time available is 5:30 am! It's too cold, snowy and icy in Central New York for much outdoor right now. We have a great YMCA with Nautilus and a track. I'm still comfortable with a baseball hat or a knit hat if I'm outside. I look forward to reading everyone's advice and about your successes!

I'm so envious of you being able to do cardio...I used to just love it. I lost 2 sizes when I was on Body for Life programme whose programme has you hit intensity in your cardio and weights. I loved that feeling of strength that came with it, I can relate to that Jenn! I've not heard of turbo fire Cheryl but sounds like you and your sister encourage each other to keep going and that's what it's all about. John and I do our programme together and that keeps us motivated too.

Good job Cheryl!! Pat, I keep looking to you and your page as inspiration. I think you are fabulous! I recently started a new program called "Insanity" and it is INSANE! Heavy cardio with body plyometrics but man...I feel stronger! (Plus Shawn T. the instructor is nice to look at...especially when he HAS to take off his shirt:)

Hi Jennifer, I recently have been doing TurboFire (Same people that market P90X). I was a bit intimidated by the HIIT routines. But actually Charlene sister on Facebook and I have been talking and she kept me accountable, so I tried it last week. I got through it... barely... but I got through it. I used to be quite active, but I have let life take the front seat. So here I am starting again. The TurboFire workout are engaging enough to keep me interested and hard enough to keep me motivated. But I am not really disciplined enough to follow a program.

I used to do Body for Life, which has you doing cardio and weights on alternative days. It's a great programme and although I'm not strict on it these days I've been able to maintain a level of fitness I'm proud of at my age. Having polymyalgia I can't run like I did but still do some walking and do weights approx 4 times a week. I'm totally with you on the meditative side of's what I really miss about it.

Has anyone tried "Insanity" workouts? I keep trying and make it to about 3 weeks doing "P90X" and the daily workout routine tuckers me out! I want to do an overall body workout, but still have the energy to run (it's my time away from kidlets...kind of meditative)
