WARNING: I'm about to overshare about my alopecia because who else will read this stuff??

I was diagnosed with alopecia when I was seven years old. There were sporadic, full regrowth periods -- some lasting as long as four years! -- but none since I was 19. I've worn a wig since 1999 and have not undergone any sort of treatment in the past decade.

Some advice I can offer, if helpful to you: I've tried semi-permanent tattooed eyebrows (horrible), microbladed eyebrows, and now use daily temporary tattoos. I've dabbled enough in eyeliners and eyelashes to have some thoughts there, too, if you want them!

While the 'blah' days still occur on occasion, I'm more acclimated to things than I was in the past. That being said, I have yet to fully balance the impact of this disease against its true irrelevance to my life. I want there to be more to me than just this disease, but its effect has been far-reaching. Maybe you relate.

I haven't had the opportunity to befriend someone else with alopecia. Looking forward to doing that here...so, hi. I'm Avi. :)

2022: Maybe because of some pandemic re-wiring for me, I've started to venture outside without my wig and am adjusting again to the stares and reactions (ugh). That's brought me back to this community...and, of course, then Will Smith happened. :)

Hey Ravisha- The Buxton is suppose to have a ghost cat but I haven't seen it. It is a really neat place to walk around...the gardens, fountains and lights are nice. We get to Columbus pretty often... love the North Market and art museum. I like the gallery hop in the Short North but we don't get to that very often.
