Welcome to a supportive space for your real alopecia journey — beyond the highlight reel.
Let’s be honest: social media is filled with stunning bald influencers living their best lives. They glow. They pose. They boldly declare "Bald is Beautiful." And it is. But if you're quietly wondering, “Why don’t I feel that way?” — this space is for you.
Not everyone living with alopecia feels empowered every day. Some are still adjusting, still hiding, still searching for a sense of peace. You’re not alone in that.
I’ve been living this for over 30 years. I didn’t come to peace overnight — I found my footing through time, reflection, community, and a lot of trial and error. There’s a path between shame and confidence, and I’ve walked it. That’s why Alopecia World exists — not to sell you a version of perfection, but to offer space for real stories and real connection.
Social media might reward perfection — but healing happens in spaces where you don’t have to perform. This is one of those spaces.

Great reminder. We all have our own journey and it’s easy to feel like you’re doing it wrong when comparing yourself to others. I recently attended a very empowering Alopecia event and before I got home I put my wig back on so the neighbors didn’t see me bald. And guess what? That’s ok!
It has been about 20 years for me and I still have not come to terms with it. When your immediate family insists that it is free will and what I wanted and your grandmother had told you it was hereditary, I don't know where to go with it.
I don't know if I have had anything help me grow. I have been treated like an alien from outer space and I am so tired of it. Sadly, my family believes that when I said that I would rather be dead than bald, that meant I wanted to be bald for all eternity.
I took early retirement last year and have been trying to build up my food truck business, but people like my family, who have an IQ lower than room temperature, think that it is contagious.
Recently, I have denied contracts for IT Contracts because of it, because once they see me on Zoom, I don't have any knowledge of what needs to be done because I refuse to show off the "gift" that God has given me.
