Your presence may mean far more than you think

Recently, a mother whose beautiful young daughter has alopecia said to me, "I always tell my daughter that you are her twin. I tell her when she grows up, she's going to look like you."

The emotions that statement elicited in me were very strong: I was honored and extremely humbled.

Our reach as alopecians is far beyond us. We may be just living our lives and, at the same time, encouraging a neighbor, a person on our morning commute, or perhaps someone we least expect.

Keep your head up high and remember that someone may be encouraged by your simple presence.

We have so much to give others - by quietly coping and encouraging or by standing up and proclaiming. We are special people.

Thank you for posting this. It is really helpful to me as I am currently trying to get used to going to work and out and about bare headed, with my buzzed/shaved hair and patches for the world to see. Sometimes I still want to hide under my wigs but this really helps me keep going xxx

All of us women must remember that there is more to us than just our hair. We're all brave and heroic every day that we get up and face the world that prioritises looks as a key factor for a woman's worth. So let's be gentle with ourselves, feel self pity once in a while- it's good to indulge once in a while. Then get up and get on. XxX come on you beautiful people life is for enjoying not enduring xx

Well you are brave as I haven't the courage to go out without my wig, Iam such a sight with half a head of hair. To make matters worse there is no sign of it returning over one year later. I try to forget about it but find it all very depressing.
