Xeljanz (Tofacitinib Citrate): My experience on the trial
I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.
I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.
Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.
The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.
I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

To all people with AU who tried xeljanz..i want to ask you have you ever had your eyebrows and eyelashes back?

Yes, I am answering this question based on what is happening with my daughter who started Xeljanz 3 months ago. The growth is impressive to me since at one time she was completely bald and now has half of each eyebrow, short lashes top and bottom and I think nice coverage on her head. We are hopeful but do understand all of the down sides of this drug and the potential to lose it all if she does not take the medication, Time will tell.

She is taking one pill in the morning 5 milligrams and 2 5 milligrams at night.

Hello how is your health check I am french and i wish to go in turkey i call a pharmacy the price is 430 dollars. I wish to take it long term but I am afraid of serious effects can you tell me more? Is it possible to take it for life?

Yes it would be lifelong treatment, but perhaps the dose can be lowered after time. Look up Pfizer the pharmaceutical company to research the possible risks of taking Xeljanz.
How many 5 mg tablets would you get for 430 dollars?
Do you have AU (complete hair loss)?

Yes 56 tablet of 5mg yes i know it is a lifetime treatment i ask ci people who have pr and alopecia are ready to take it for life. Doctors think of what?

What is the cost of the 11mg tablets ? Is it possible to cut/split these tablets to save money ?

Hi Kevin yes at the moment and the evidence from people taking then stoping and losing hair suggests that it is a treatment. But if you stop you will likely lose hair. However at the moment you could say life long treatment but I feel you can use this treatment as s bridge maybe for about 36-48 months, because I feel with all the research going on now they might have a better treatment in the coming years so in theory you may not be on xeljanz treatment all your life.

I have been on Xeljanz for little over two weeks now and I have been taking 5mg tab twice a day. So far I see no visible hair growth. However, my hair loss have started to slow down a little bit.
Based on others experience, how long does it usually take before you can actually start seeing some results.
