Xeljanz (Tofacitinib Citrate): My experience on the trial
I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.
I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.
Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.
The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.
I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

Print out the paperwork for the free assistance. Not sure what is is called, sorry. Bring it with you and ask your doctor to submit the paperwork. Also print out a article pertaining to Xeljanz and Alopecia. Make it from an accredited source. Assume your doctor nows nothing on jak inhibitors. I am assuming you have not done this. Go in educated that my advice.

My 5 year old suggested I try a hair vitamin and after 3 months of not listening to her...I finally decided to try it! No changes in diet or anything. I eat a lot of sugar! I love sweets and Starbucks!

Hi J cortez, I am curious as to why you think your hair started thinning. What dose were you on, or had you stopped due to pregnancy? I also have full regrowth, and am trying to reduce the dose, but am fearful of relapse.

No it started falling off almost immediately after i got pregnant.. i think its was the change in hormones .. but thats just my personal experience.. katiegirl got pregnant and didnt lose her hair so everyone is diff . ..also, i only lost all of my hair right after i delivered my son . Before i gave birth and all through life ive had my hair .. i did have aopecia areata (small smooth patches) but it would always grow back .. now when i lose it its not in patches its very bad diffused thinning

I’m sorry guys...I haven’t taken them in over a month. I wanted to make sure I had the name right. It’s called Newopure and can be purchased on Amazon for $40. I am in the process of trying a new brand. I will keep you guys posted on my progress.

I have insurance in Europe but need to change to American insurance, as I live her full-time now. I have an appointment with Dr. King next week for AU and am wondering which insurance is best/easiest about paying for his treatment, which I assume will be Xeljanz.
