I do still have a bit of fuzz on my head but I'd still putmyself in the AT catagory although I've just noticed my arms are looking very sparse of hair, the razor takes care of everywhere else. I still get asked if i have cancer ocasionaly, thank hevans for Gail Porter, it takes much less time explaining about alopecia. I wore a wig for about 3 years when my AA got too difficult to cover but since its all gone and I cant invisage it coming back, I've gone without the wig and to be honest I'm sooooo much more confident!

Hi! I just joined. I thought I had universalis as well, but I am getting arm and leg (darn - now I may need to shave!) hair. I am bald, no eyebrows or eyelashes. I do wear wigs, but am prepping to go outside with a scarf. Maybe soon.

You know the one thing that has ever really bothered me about having alopecia? its that just because you wear a scarf, people automatically assume you have cancer.

Hi Jessica - I had a very similar story with AA when I was 14 and then some AA again in my 20s. I am 40 now and have AT. Once things started again in my 20s it was a slow (very slow) transition to AT. Never a complete regrowth though. At times I would get teased with quite a bit of growth but never my whole head. I wear a vacuum wig by Freedom Hair. Expensive but well worth it for complete satisfaction and confidence. Insurance gave me the same story. Good luck to you.

I had AA when I was 4 but it grew back in and I had really pretty hair until I was 20. Then I got AA again and it progressed into AT within the last year or so. I'm 24 now. I just want to know, has anyone had a complete regrowth after AT? Does it ever go back to how it was before? I think I manage well right now but some days (like today) it really gets me down. I just had a talk with the insurance company and they told me they don't cover wigs for alopecia because it's "not medically necessary." What a bunch of BS.

Too right, Jeannine. My view is I'm fit and healthy and don't have a serious illness, just a cosmetic difference. Love to you all out there. x

Yo are sooo right Dee but it seems we and our loved ones are the people who seem to think that way...By the way, Im Jeannine and Ive had alopecia since my late 20s and have just been blessed not to let it really bother me to a point where Im stressed. Its nice to meet everyone.

Me again, I meant to say "hair ISN'T the only beauty in a person". xx

Hello All. I'm Dee and have had AU and AA at various times over 30 or so years, (in case you're wondering I'm only 42!!!). I recall that my first bald spot occurred when I was about 8 years of age and I gradually lost all my hair within about 4 years. It's never fully grown back on my head although I did have a time when I was in my very early 20s (Ithink) when I had quite a good cover but very patchy. I have to say I've never really known anything but being bald and managed really quite well in my life. For all of you out there who are struggling, believe you are beautiful because hair is the only beauty in or for a person. Be strong and try and be happy. Love and Peace to you all.
