Here is the story of a Bad Hair Day. It was Halloween, and my husband was taking my daughter around the neighborhood, leaving me to answer the door and shovel sugar to the monsters, princesses, and other assorted Trick or Treaters.
Most of the kids travel in packs, but towards the end of the nights' visitations a single girl, around 12 or so, rang the bell.
"Trick or Treat!"
She took a piece of candy, smiled at me brightly and said, "Hey, that's a great fright…

Hi everyone!
So today I had my scalp biopsy. I went in fearing how badly the procedure would hurt. My mom went in afraid of how much hair they would remove. Frankly, I didn't give a flying fig about that, just as long as I can get an answer as to what type of hair loss I have. (They only took about 5 - 7 hairs from the root, and it didn't hurt at all!)
The doctor who performed my biopsy examined my hair loss and told me right off the bat that I don't have Alopecia Areata or Totalis or…

Hi everybody!
Just like a mother would prepare for her new born baby, I am preparing for a potentially bald future. I know that I would definitely want a vacuum wig, but I'm not sure who I would want to buy one from, should that day ever come. I'm deciding between Freedom Wigs (or Fuller Hair), New Hair Technology, and Peggy Knight. If you have any experiences - good AND bad - with any of these companies, PLEASE let me know! I am trying deperately to narrow it down so if the day ever comes…

Hi all!
I'm going for a biopsy this week that will (hopefully) shed some light on why I'm losing my hair. I am concerned with how much hair they'll need to remove for the test, however. Does anybody know how much they will take?
Also, how accurate are the results?
Please responds!
Thanks!
Alexandra

As Christmas approaches it looks as thought Santa is bringing me another bout of Alopecia.
Having shaved all of my hair off last December to reveal a glorious map of the world on my head (40% of my hair had fallen out) I was a happy bald person. By August the patches had all disappeared and so I let me hair grow back. I still kept it short but I did have hair. A couple of weeks ago though I noticed a patch on the left side of my head just above the ear had developed and it’s getting…

Whether you are suffering from hereditary baldness or alopecia areata, the key to your successful treatment is to identify the most suitable remedy for your current condition. Although there is no ultimate cure available for most of the known hair loss conditions, some treatments can help you slow down the balding process or even recover a portion of the lost hair. Professional consultation is strongly recommended to start with. Dermatologists will typically prescribe medicinal treatments such…

If you are suffering from early stages of Male Pattern Baldness, then your chances of recovery are very high. It's just that you will need to focus on the right treatments for it in the soonest possible time.
Male Pattern Baldness is also known as Androgenetic Alopecia is directly caused by 2 main factors as the condition spells it, Androgen and Genetics. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a potent male hormone formed when Testosterone is converted to DHT by the enzyme 5 alpha reductase.…

o.o weerd. i started eating alota sunflower seeds, and less milk. and weee. hair is growing back.
or is it just doing it by itself?
idk.
my first bald spot [which used to be only one inch, but covers almost half of my head now] has my natural haircolor growing in the middle.
all my other bald spots have soft white hair in them somewhere, except for the edges [around my ears and the bottom of the back of my head]
but i have enough hair to have a short mohawk.

I’ve just had my first holiday in the sun as a bald person. I had a great time getting a tan on top of my head and clearly looked relaxed and healthy on my return. Several people did comment on how much healthier I looked without hair. Obviously a tan makes people look well but they did say that the tan and the bald image made me look really well.
I must admit that the lack of hair also made life so much easier while I was away. Although I had to take care to apply sun tan lotion to…

Ok time for your HONEST opinions. I've never had short hair in my life. What better time to try than now that I can have any hair I want! I'm thinking about this wig below. Be HONEST and tell me if you think I could pull off a sexy style like this. I've never had a sexy style before, so for me I just can't picture it. But I really wish I could pull off a look like this. I'm looking for a sassy "go out" hair style. :o)
And I'm thinking…

This year we have had the worst summer ever. The weather has been terrible with lots of rain and on many days it has been cold but the sun actually shone briefly on Sunday. What a wonderful feeling it was to have the warmth of the sun on my bald head. It felt as though it was how I should always be and this only served to confirm my view that despite now having re-growth all over, I will continue to shave my head and continue with my new image of being bald or at the very least the proud owner…

The strange thing about being bald is that it brings to your attention the whole aspect of self image. Before having Alopecia self image was not something that I thought of very much, I was how I was. Having lost my hair I am in a position of having had a before image and a new image. As such it has drawn my attention to the way I look now and to how I feel about myself.
I look at other people more now with a thought of what they are like in relationship to their self image and how…

So I was sitting around watching tv last night and I ran my hand over my head (I love the way it feels shaved!) and realized the bald spots didn't feel so bald... I bolted up off the couch and ran to the mirror (haven't been looking in the mirror much lately) and lo and behold...not my whole head, but MOST of it is covered with a thin layer of white hair! Wooooo!!! Not like before with a white hair here and there...but actual white hair filling in spots! Now, it's hard to tell when it's white,…

The weekend was pretty poor really. Daughter trouble! How they can make life difficult! Who would think that a 16 year old girl who is loved and looked after so well could cause so a bad weekend but she did!
Regardless of the problems it was going to be a low key weekend really apart from a concert in Manchester on Saturday evening. I had shaved my head on Friday morning and then left it for the full weekend as I was going to see my consultant on the Monday morning. By Monday morning…

I am so amazed by what is happening in my life right now...some passions and hopes that have been unfulfilled for many years are starting to come true one after the other. One of them happened today, and all thanks to AW. We had our first support group meeting here in the Phoenix area. I guess there was a meeting many years back that fizzled out. But I have been here 7 years and looked a few times in the past 7 years and there has not been one.
Five of us ladies came and we had a… Continue

Hello My Shining Ones :-)
I also just posted a video that shares some of this same *long* story....if you'd rather watch than read :-)
In my first blog I said I would share "how/when" my Alopecia started as the story has unraveled itself to me slowly over the years! When I was 7 or 8 years old I realized I was somehow meant to "travel the world, meet my brothers and sisters and spread the message of love." Yes, perhaps an odd thought for a child, but it was something that…

When I think of my fiancée, Cheryl Carvery, I don’t think of alopecia areata.
I think of a friend that sticks closer than any sibling; a compassionate person whose heart and life are wide open to other alopecians and who volunteers at a veterans’ hospital; a fun and inquisitive person who loves to travel and workout; a phenomenal woman who showers me with such sweet affection that I call it “addictive love.”
In…
