To me focusing our energies on getting to a place of self-acceptance is where the real cure is. I really don't want my self-confidence to be attached to my hair, my weight, my skin color... I don't want to go through my life with the false idea that only when all circumstances are totally lined up in my favor can I feel confident. Alopecia is probably only one of the curve balls that will be thrown at me in my lifetime.

We now have the awesome opportunity to really find true self-confidence, in something other than external. Honestly, if we take the challenge, what a blessing.

To me the real goal is whether a cure comes in our lifetime or not, or our hair grows back tomorrow or not...it will not make a difference.

I think the sooner we start concentrating on freeing our minds the the sooner Alopecia will no longer hold us in bondage.

Babe, that's a great point. The problem isn't with wanting a medical cure per se, but wanting a medical cure for the wrong reasons. However, it's just as important to make it crystal clear that (self-)acceptance does not mean that alopecians should abandon or give up on all research into a cure or efficacious treatments for the different types of alopecia. As you've said to me on several occasions, (self-)acceptance really means having a positive and practical answer to the question, "What are you going to do in the meantime?"

Years ago, a spiritual teacher told me that in Nostra Domus's writings, it was said that as we evolve, hair will stop growing, as some of it is not really needed. That really played a major part of me accepting that maybe it wasn't something that needed a cure, but maybe I was a little further ahead in line. Trying to fix the alopecia was always first on my list, not realizing that self acceptance should have been. Whether or not it was true was irrelevant as it played a part in my healing. I was fortunate that a healing circle of 18 woman, and that teacher, helped me to finally let go of my wig. Being without my wig on the day I first met my husband, attracted him to me, whereas if I'd have had my wig, I would have just been another blond.

I agree with you. The same with rj, I don't know if it was my bald head that attracted him, but it certainly did not deter him. My alopecia has never been a problem between us. He knew from the moment he first read my myspace page. It was talked about and discussed in the beginning, in an open informative exchange and he also took that opportunity to share situation about his life.

For the record, your alopecia did not attract me to you. No alopecic or bald fetish here, not in the least, and I don't want any member of Alopecia World, including you, to think or suspect otherwise. If you were not the woman/person you are, there's no doubt in my mind that I wouldn't be your man today regardless of how good you look bald (or how good you make bald look!).

All I have to say right now is THANK YOU so much for creating this website....i have had alopecia for 6 straight years, even though i've had some encounters with it since i was ten years old....but now for the past 4 months my hair just did not grow anymore and i am bald...reading about other people dealing with this auto-immune illness is helping me learn more about it, but above all accept me for who i truly am....being bald does not define me since i know i have many other great qualities :) It takes great people with initiative to do something about it, and you and your husband have....again THANK YOU SO MUCH!
