I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.
I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.
Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.
The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.
I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

Where do you get your medication to get that dosage? Are you in the states, and are you covered?
Thanks. I am greatfull but waiting is hard. What did you get a shot of. Did I read you comment correctly
I have eyebrows and a beard just little growth on my scalp
I have tried every combination of xeljanz for almost 3 years now and nothing has worked for me yet.And I am not universal I do have eyelashes and enough eyebrows to make it work when I look in my makeup mirror I can see that soft facial hair women have.I do wear a wig only have about 25 percent head hair.Dont get it I must be a non responder who needs the jak1and2.Wish there were other options trying to stay positive with all the new trials but am afraid it will be years before anything is approved.
Pfizer is currently in phase 2 for an Alopecia specific Jak inhibitor drug right now. They're expecting to be done with everything by end of year and hopefully is FDA approved in 11-16 months from now. So far the results are very good. There is no name for the drug and they own the formula from my understanding.
Wonder what the $$ will be like. And if either insurance or in a one payer system, the government, will subside if it's specifically for alopecia... that's the problem with xeljanz- it's hard to get it affordably for alopecia because it's not considered a "serious" condition.
Cortisone shot, at the time , i became content with eyebrows and lashes and facial hair, the hir on my head is a plus.., i was just shooting for brows.
I havent posted an update in a while .. after having full regrowth i slowly started having some thinning nothing too crazy then i became pregnant end of november and almost immediately my hair starting falling out .. severe thinning .. clumps would fall out .. heres a pic . I did end up having a miscarriage and have now noticed small white hairs growing in. *sigh* this condition is SO frustrating .
This was my hair about 6-7 months ago (excuse the snap chat filter.. kind of obsessed ) by nov-december it was much longer .. now i will have to shave it off again and “start over “
Oh Hun I'm so sorry. Really hope you get full regrowth again quickly. Hard enough to deal with a miscarriage, then to have the alopecia kick in. You got great regrowth before so I think it's almost certain to come back well.
Hi everybody! I haven’t posted in a long long time, but I wanted to let you guys know I’ve had full regrowth of my body hair on Xeljanz. HOWEVER, I continued to only grow peach fuzz on my head UNTIL I added a hair vitamin with a DHT blocker in it. My regrowth on my head start within about a week of adding the hair vitamins. Check out my pics!
Yes do let us know which vitamin! That's a great response!
