I have been living with alopecia since 1991. Throughout the years, I have had alopecia areata and alopecia totalis. My life is not over, so there is still time for alopecia universalis. ;-) I have had many ups and down and find that I always come out on the other side standing tall.
It has always been a given for me to reach out to others with alopecia. I just did it naturally. I became involved in our local support group in Montreal, participated in the annual conferences of the National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF), and also served as president of the Quebec Alopecia Areata Foundation (QAAF).
Someone once asked me what I planned to do after I moved to the USA. My initial thought was to attend or start a support group in Michigan, but I eventually settled on the wonderful idea of creating Alopecia World with my husband, rj jones, who was my fiancé at the time (2008).
On a personal note, I like to blend femininity and strength. A woman can be strong and physically capable as well as soft and feminine. For a long time, I thought I "had" to be one or the other, and I had a hard time finding my place. Blending both is very gratifying, indeed.
I also like to keep active. It does not have to be extreme. It can be a bike ride, walking, painting a room in the house, or cleaning the garage.
In April 2008, I married rj, a very special man that supports me in my alopecia and is the catalyst and the great mind behind the research and design of this site.
Please feel free to "friend" rj and me: We would love to make your acquaintance.
Thanks for the welcome. I'm learning all I can, my daughter's developed AA (still patchy, but the patches are growing together) and I'm trying to learn how I can support her. :-)
HI Cheryl
Thanks for the welcome. I have spent most of my life making people feel better by styling their hair. For the past 12 years I have been working with people with hair loss. I am in the busines of supplying wig, of all kinds. What has been the turning point for me is how beautiful people look without hair.
OK so thats alright for me to say I don't have alopoecia, But how good do you look!!!!!
Luv

I think it's amazing that he's so supportive of you. I think this is a great website.
Have you heard of a product called Calosol? It's supposed to be for alopecia. Check it out on the internet and tell me what you think. I was going to order it, but I want to know if anyone heard of it.

I didn't know about this feature until 5 mins ago when I checked my email and found it full of welcomes! A ll I can say is, Thank You! So very much for welcoming me. I know that I may sound like a broken record but, it feels so good to not be alone.
Hi Cherly,
Thanx for adding me as a friend, feel a bit thick here having a "hairdresser" moment. Don't quite know how to go about accepting :-(

Can you help me with sorting the order of my photographs please? I have up loaded them but on the slide show they are not in the order that I want. I have put photos of the progression of my alopecia adn in order in makes sense but on the slide show they are out of order. I hope that that makes sense.
Hi Cheryl, and thanks for the kind welcome! Today was the day that I shaved my head, and I'm feeling quite liberated! Tomorrow I face the public and go to work with my new look and my new wig!!!
I wish I had found this site 12 years ago!! Thanks for finding me on FB and making me aware of your site. It's great to have a place to talk to others going through the same thing. What a wonderful thing you are doing! I want to help others and didn't know how to do it. You figured it out! I hope I can get some ideas...
i just want to say thank you to you and rj, this site is literally a god send. i have just been diagonsed with alopecia and have lost my hair and plunged into a deep depression. i didn't know anyone with this and have really never heard of it before. as stupid as it sounds, i thought i was the only one. i felt a little better yesterday for the 1st time and i am sure that itis because i have found this site and read some of the stories and know that i will be just fine and can fight my way through it because so many others have and seem to be better for it. so thank you again and i will keep reading and finding more and more inspiration.
thanks
jenn
Bonjour Cheryl,
I'm doing fine, thanks! I have been busy with the kids and the schoo's stuff but now, the routine is kiking in and things should be smoother (well... I hope!!) tell me, has a support group meeting been scheduled for this fall in Montreal? I've been in touch with Louise but nothing concrete seem to be going on....

Hi,
I'd like to extend my interest in MTV's True Life hair-loss episode.
Some details about me:
I'm 24-years-old, I live and go to school in Chicago, IL.
I was 20-years-old when my hair started falling out and now I'm virtually hairless.
Thank you,
Matt Filippelli

hello cheryl, i found out about your site through a co worker who has a child with alopecia.when i logged on i was pleasantly pleased to see you were a creator. great site! glad to support and eager to promote the cause
Hi Cherly,
I am so sorry, I actually thought I was responding to you when I joined your site. Thank you for such an insite to our indiviual beauty in knowing the we as a people in the Alopecia world are not an island. I will keep in touch.
Thanks for the welcome and for providing the atmosphere for people to communicate. I know I felt very lost and out of touch when my daughter was diagnosed a few months ago. Being able to read people's stories and hear their humor has made this much easier. Thanks again!
Hey! I got called by the MTV people after I sent them an e-mail, and we had a long phone interview, then she asked for my schedule and stuff! She is presenting my case and facts and stuff to the other producers and they will decide as a group if I am right for the show! Exciting, huh? I am thrilled that they even called. Do you know how many people responded to them?
Thank you for the welcome! I thanked rj, now I'll say the same to you: Thank you for creating this site. For the last year, I've felt like I was the only person in the world that had their eyebrows fall out. I don't feel so sorry for myself anymore. Thank you.

So far I really like it here! Even though it's a bit hard writing in english, I tend to use a kind of "swenglish" when I write. :-)
