Hi all... I was hoping for some ideas of what is going on with my hair and scalp. I examine the hair that falls out and most of them have a white jagged crusty sheath near the bulb. I can sometimes…Continue

Sever scalp pain, itching, some hair loss.. What is this?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Maddie Jan 26, 2020. 10 Replies

My story is kind of weird and I don't know if it's related to the pain. My boyfriends 3 year old grabbed my hair one night and pulled it VERY hard. The next morning my scalp was on fire and hurt so…Continue

Profile Information

Relationship Status:
Single
About Me:
I'm a 30 year old female that was just diagnosed with Chronic Telogen Effluvium. I also suffer from Trichodynia which is the medical term for severe scalp pain. I don't know why I fell victim to either of these. I have lost about 40% of my hair and it has been very depressing and life changing. The pain may be the worst part of it all. It hurts to touch my head, shower, comb it, etc... I never experienced anything like it before.

I also have battled eating disorders (anorexia/bulimia) for 18 years now. I am unsure as are the doctors whether or not it contributed to all this. I also suffer from severe anxiety and panic attacks. I never thought anything could be worse than an eating disorder, but I may have been mistaken.

I just need a break from constantly being sick and fighting to find peace within myself and my body.
Do you have alopecia?
Telogen effluvium
Are you age 18 or older?
Yes - I am 18 or older

Vitamins and supplements

Posted on November 7, 2010 at 1:40pm 5 Comments

Hi all. I am just wondering if anyone thinks that vitamins and supplements are worth the money?

I take SO many pills and I am afraid I am just wasting my hard earned money.. I take the following:

Prenatal once a day

Biotin 15000 mcg a day

MSM 2500 a day

Fish oil (Omega 3) 2400 mg a day

Vitamin E

Vitamin D

I take the basic vitamin because of some low levels, but does anything REALLY help?

Thanks in advance! I would love… Continue

My apologies to all

Posted on October 7, 2010 at 8:21pm 20 Comments

I posted a rather upsetting blog yesterday and I noticed today that it "mysteriously" disappeared. I don't know if someone asked that it be taken down since it was kind of a very telling blog or if the website somehow deleted it. I don't know but I want to apologize if it hurt anyone to hear how upset I am and how badly I am handling the scalp pain and not liking myself or how I look. Today was a bad day. I had to leave work and may take a few days off. I woke up this morning with a numb and… Continue

I finally have a diagnosis after 11 doctors

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 5:34pm 9 Comments

Hi everyone. Well it took me seeing 11 different medical professionals including 4 dermatologists, endocrinologist, internal medicine specialists, allergist and the dermatologist I saw today.

The only dermatologists that I had been able to get into see up until today were all male. I found the experience of seeing them intimidating and not very helpful because they couldn't understand the emotional stress I felt being a female. They all believed it was in my head and told me that I… Continue

Ketoconazole 2% and Corticosteroid Betamethasone

Posted on August 16, 2010 at 8:00pm 2 Comments

Me again with another question! I was prescribed by my dermatologist the 2 above treatments for my itchy scalp and sensitivity. He always said my scalp looked healthy on previous visits and I called him today and told him my head was itching severely with tiny white balls of gunk... He prescribed me these two things without even looking at my scalp. He is about an hour drive away...

Have any of you ever used either of these? I am very nervous about using them. I know the steroid… Continue

Hi Julie How are you doing? I have the same thing as you... deal with scalp / hair follicle pain and I'm 28. I'm seriously close to suicide, have had it with doctors and life as I know it now is not life at all... hope you've had some improvement.

You ought not to tell folks about your innermost troubles cause it only makes you vulnerable. Bad people in the world target those that are vulnerable. Internet messages and what not should be a little more anonymous. Just a thought, have a happy and safe new year. You might be self-destructive like a lot of people who are messed up but take of care yourself right now so you can at least have a 'chance' to get better. Cheers.

Thanks. We all have something in common Julie. That is we care about our emotional and physical well being, even caring about you. I don't even know you. But I went through that. It is hard for you. Please believe positively. It will work out. Merry Christmas. I will talk more with you.
