To boost or not to boost

Posted on October 24, 2010 at 8:21pm 3 Comments

I guess I was just wondering if anyone else has been confused with regards to boosting their immune system and whether or not this can impact on alopecia.

Alopecia is a auto immune system disorder so would boosting your immune system make it worse? However typical unhealthy behaviour and traits are linked with lowering immune response -smoking, consuming junk food, no exercise etc.

I read that if you boost your immune system that autoimmune disorders would actually benefit… Continue

Has anyone stopped to think just what went wrong with their immune system in the first place for them to get alopecia?

Can we influence are immune system by what we eat how we think and by what supplements we take? I beleive we can and of course research has proved this. A doctor told me that alopecia is a internal problem expressed externally. I felt this was a little odd at first but began to realise I was going about treating myself the wrong way. What most of us see is the hair… Continue

Fix what's in your head to cure what's on it

Hello very interesting news about the treatment of alopecia. CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) is helping many with alopecia. Although stress is a most probably a contributing factor to alopecia; ongoing stress or more specifically situation related stress- anxiety is a big obstacle why hair takes time to regrow. This anxiety state adds to our unwell health and increases our stress hormones stunting hair growth.

If we feel quite self conscious and avoid doing things as of alopecia… Continue

What I know about alopecia (technical) and treatment

Posted on August 17, 2008 at 9:12am 4 Comments

Well like the majority of us on the website the first thing I did was research. I learnt the alopecia is an autoimmune disease that can be brought about by stress and it is something that has a possible genetic link. If stress alone caused alopecia then the Mcanns looking for their missing child madeline would be going through totalis by now. Stress effects us in different ways and with some of us it can unfortunately cause alopecia.

Obviously, the psychological effects it can have… Continue

Letting go of the anger and why alopecia makes us sad...

Posted on August 15, 2008 at 12:00pm 5 Comments

Since I have some time on my hands before i get better and get a real job (just book keep and do shopping and stuff for parents business- a residential home). I can post a brighter more positive blog than the last one. I did debate whether to put that up because its the sad side of what alopecia can do to you; but if somebody reads it and realises to get help if you feel down then it was worth it.

I did have a bit of anger built up towards my parents because of alopecia and felt like… Continue

Hey Carl,

Thanks for the kind words!!! They really made my day!!! I live day to day with alopecia the same way anyone else would (I hope) -- putting one foot in front of the other, taking one step at a time, and having lots of fun along the way (case in point: Right at this very moment I have drawn eyes on the back of my head, which is flipping everyone out! LOL)
