My update

4 months after my hair fell out into crop circles, and 2 months after my diagnosis, I now have about 1/2" of regrowth. Initially it was impossible to see, but about 2 weeks ago, I noticed it now has color to it again. It is still very hard to see though. I measured my overall hair length the other day, hoping to chop it off before Alopecia could take it, and donate it again, but it is still not long enough for the required 10".

After 1 1/2 months of absolutely NO hair loss at all, and… Continue

The economics of hair

Have you thought about the costs of maintaining hair? I have been maintaining a head of hair all my life, without complaint either, because good hair is a fabulous asset and always seemed worth the effort. But recently, with diminishing hair, I have been exploring the upsides of being hairless. One big upside, money savings! The economics of maintaining hair are appealing when you plot it all out. Take for example my hair maintenance routine (if I was being maximally careful... of course… Continue

How to apply false eyelashes

Hi everyone! Wanted to type this up because I see a lot of questions about this, and it took me about 2 yrs to get it down! These are my personal preferences. I like to use Revlon self adhesive lashes, and DUO glue. They can be found at CVS, and most other drug stores. The reason I use those lashes is A) extra glue on top of the adhesive really keeps these in place. I have kept them on up to 10 hrs, even cried in them ( wedding) and they never budge. B) Because of the adhesive, the lash line is… Continue

Update on my college freshman

My daughter has had AU for over a year now and she has grown so much! She told me today that she told one of her new close friends and she said, "yea I already knew but didn't want you to be uncomfortable." She said the girls that know don't care and the boys just think you are gorgeous. This was a relief for her to reveal this since she never really knew if her new friends knew are not. I think this will help her courage to tell people in the future. She has been on sulfasalazine and has good… Continue

Apology to my alopecian sisters & brothers - A lesson learned

I owe my Alopecia World Sister's & Brother's an apology, for I have been absent for over 2 1/2 months.

I pulled a typical Cancer (my sign) & withdrew into my shell.

During Sept to current I was dealing with a Mom who sadly has dementia, but fortunately I have my sister, Kathy, we lean on each other. On September 23rd I lost one of my oldest & dearest friends to complications to diabetics. Patty as I described her to Heather, was an extraordinary individual. She helped me… Continue

Hi to all my alopecian friends!

Hello All, I just wanted to give an update on my life and progress lol...I am sorry I have not been on much, I have been trying to focus my time and energy on finals cause they are kicking my butt, but I am doing well...Not much change on my bald patches as of today except for regrowth in the middle of all, but one of my patches..I have also discovered that since my hair is starting to grow back in the patches that I have severe diffuse shedding now which I hope is because my telogen hair is… Continue

To shave or not to shave

Well, how should I start:

Had AA for a long time but it was never that bad (a few spots here and there that always grew back in within a few months), 7 years later after the first spot appeared, I have now been losing hair for about 11 months straight now and it hasn't stopped, it's getting so bad in the past few months that I can barely hide it with just a pony tail anymore (I had amazingly thick hair to begin with so I've been lucky and been able to hide it usually... ) I messaged… Continue
