I wish

I wish I could go to the salon and get my hair high lighted and walk out feeling awesome, like I used to.

I wish I could wash my hair with the super expensive shampoo and conditioner that smelled awesome, that made my hair feel great.

I wish I could tie my hair up in a pony tail, instead of tying my bandana over my hairless head.

I wish I didn't have to pretend to be ok with losing my hair, to make people comfortable.

I wish my "courage/strength" wasn't based on…

AA vs. Cancer

We live in a world of all types of diseases. Today I found out that someone I love dearly has stage 4 cancer!!!! There is no chemo that will help her or radiation that will reduce the size or kill it off. With all of my health issues and aches and pains along with hair loss due to AA and LUPUS ............I took a step back today and said to myself............" I am fine!! Its not Cancer and I need to be strong and realize that this is NOTHING compared to CANCER..........Live Lupus and AA…

Girl bullied after cutting hair short to donate to charity

Fox News reported:

An Ohio mother is speaking out after she says her 10-year-old daughter was bullied at school because she cut her hair short to donate it to charity.

FOX45 reported Tuesday that Jetta Fosburg decided on her own to cut 14 inches off of her long blonde hair and donate it to Wigs for Kids, a charity that helps children with cancer and other hair loss issues.

“I have some family members who have cancer so I thought it was the right thing to…

Hair growth

A few months ago I wrote a blog saying that I went to an endocrinologist for my alopecia because I was at a loss( i had gone to a dermatologist for months and gotten injections, to no avail) The dermatologist did blood work but they failed to check my hormone levels( they basically checked my iron levels, just protocol). I also went to a regular doctor and got blood work there and they did not see anything out of the ordinary. My endocrinologist on the other h

and was very thorough…

Is there anybody who has tried methotrexate for Alopecia and did all your hair grow back after using it?

I recently went to a new dermatologist cause my other one only gave me steroid creams which did nothing, and she prescribed me methotrexate for my alopecia. I have to have all my blood test results to come back negative before I can start taking it, but I was just wondering if anybody has had complete hair growth using it. I also have pernicious anemia which is an auto-immune in b12 deficiency and Hoshimotos and auto-immune thyroid disorder. I've never had any problems ever and all of a…

Free to be!

I wish there was a moment where all people with all types of Alopecia could unite, people who have a lot of hair, some hair, or no hair. To just be free to be us. To walk down a street, all of us, taking off our wigs, our hats, our scarves, whatever we have on, to show who we are and what we have, and for some it may be to show what we hide.

Whether you shave your head or not.

Our unique beauty, taking off our coverings would not be for other people or for eachother but, for…

Makeup tips for bald girls/women

I have a question. What do you do if you are not wearing a wig and want to put makeup on? Like if you put foundation on your face what do you do about your head? If this makes any sense any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Kat

FUN with cancer, more

Hi - Today, I want to make it clear that cancer is not my whole life.  So I have fun doing things that don't have Anything to do with the disease.  Like Saturday, I spent the day with one of my granddaughters - we went to a yard sale, went shopping and trying on clothes, had lunch, watched tv; she shared with me some of her favorite things, like Anime' and music - she loves music, and so do I.  Cancer doesn't have to be your whole life or your whole focus.

Today, I am starting to work…

Settling down

So for some time now my Mum has been asking me when am I going to be giving her grandchildren, this terrifies me... Like A LOT!

I want children one day but first I want to be settled down in a steady relationship but when you are twenty two with thinning hair your hardly attractive to most lads.

I know it's not about looks and what not but you try telling that to a lad you've been trying to get to know and then you eventually meet and he's opening question is 'what happened to…

Possible good news

Have had no hair for about two years. I have just noticed possible areas of white hair on the back of my head. Am I being hopeful, or could this be a good thing?

More random chat

Not sure how much of this post will be alopecia related. But I guess the good thing about a blog is that it is yours to express yourself.

I get in these moods there I just curse the randomness of alopecia for example as I was painting my nails I randomly spotted some silly finger hairs growing. Then looked at my arms they are still thankfully hairless but why then do we end up with hair places we don't want.

Another thought that came to me is why can I feel my eyebrows but not…

FUN with cancer, addition

10/9/14:

I completely forgot yesterday to include one of the Most fun things I have experienced during this Adventure:  Shaving my own head!!  I chopped my hair off first with scissors, as short as I could get it, then used an electric shaver to finish the job.  It actually felt very good, and I enjoy rubbing my bald head now.  Hope to get pictures on here soon!

The other way to make it fun is to look at this as an Adventure/Challenge along the Path of Life, and try to derive…

FUN with cancer

This may sound, well . . . I don't really know how it will sound to any of you, but I hope not offensive in any way! I had cervical cancer in 2012, went through chemo and radiation and had a hysterectomy, and was clear until this year, when a routine scan showed nodules in my lungs. This is the same kind of cancer as before, just having returned in the lungs. I am undergoing chemo therapy now, and have just lost my hair. I didn't lose it in 2012, because of being treated with a different…

Scarring alopecia

If you had AA, AT, or AU, how do you know if you have scarring alopecia? I know the only way to know for sure is a biopsy but I'm wondering how someone gets scarring alopecia and if its possible for someone who has AA/AT/AU to transform into scarring alopecia aka hair cannot regrow due to dead hair follicles. Any one know anything about this? I know everyone with severe alopecia does not have scarring because hair has grown back for people after years without it. Thanks for any…
