Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than…

A well-known gal on TV, who is known for her great looks and famous family (mostly names starting with K) just found out she has psoriasis. Here's what was said about it in a news story:
It’s largely believed to be genetic and related to the immune system.
“I’ve heard of it before, because my mom has always had it. She didn’t have red flaky dots all over,” K said.
A type of white blood cell called a T cell fights off infections in the body. T cells attack… Continue

There's a line in the movie
Eat, Pray, Love that really hit me. It is when Liz is walking away from a boat trip to a private island. After the Brazilian man says this, he follows with, "You are going away from the great possibilities of your own life." This was significant, because she had been searching for her life, and balance, throughout her whole three-country exploration of food, faith and personal peace.
It made me think of the chances one takes to follow dreams,…

A friend just sent this to me, and I thought it could help us get a reality check on what is more important to our loved ones than our hair. This is especially important for those of us who are older, or who have children and grandchildren.
A young man learns what's most important in life from the guy next door.
Over the phone, his mother told him, "Mr. Belser died last night. The funeral is Wednesday." Memories flashed through his mind like an…

Genes found for alopecia areata, a kind of hair loss
June 30, 2010 | 7:18 pmAfter a scanning the human genome for tiny DNA differences, researchers say they've uncovered clues to several genes involved in alopecia areata, in which patches of hair -- or all hair -- are lost from the scalp or full body.
Yes, yes, we hear you yawn, another day, another whole-genome scan, reporting genes-linked-to-something-we-already-knew-had-a-heritable-component. But to find out…

We all have a freedom of choice who we "accept" as friends on here, to whose opinions we respond, how we change our profile words, headings or photos, and what we wear on our heads. For me, I tend to stay away from trouble once I see that my words will have no impact for change or peace, or when I sense someone who has never even had a discussion with me suddenly wants to snoop at my personal conversation history or photos, and is very persistent about it only after seeing a certain photo in…

I just found this online from the national foundation. I do not know the date this was created.
What is alopecia areata? Whom does this disease affect?
Alopecia areata is a common autoimmune skin disease resulting in the loss of hair on the scalp and elsewhere on the body. It usually starts with one or more small, round bald patches on the scalp and can progress to total scalp hair loss (alopecia totalis) or complete body hair loss (alopecia…

Here's an except I just found on some hair research:
The researchers analyzed over many months the changes in the hair growth patterns on shaved mice and rabbits, which indicate cyclic progression between active and quiescent states by stem cells in hair follicles.
"The results are totally surprising. There is complex coordination not apparent to the naked eye," said Cheng-Ming Chuong, professor of pathology at the Keck School and the principal investigator of the study…

Okay, Ye Doubters! In the last two weeks I got the last of my white AT fuzzy hair shaved off, wore it like that in public places and among friends, took personal photos like that, and went out with no wig under my hat. I even took the hat off at my doctor appointment today. Responses? Nothing in public, compliments from friends, doctor (new) asked if I had had cancer (he didn't look at my file), and a strange lady complimented me on the hat...which was decades old, faded, and had crazy colored…

Olympian winner Shannon Miller was on the TV news this morning in the USA for boldly appearing bald in a national magazine after chemo. She had beautiful bald portrait photos that they showed on-screen, but she wore a nice wig for the interview.

A boss once said this to me, and I found it to be true quite often. Who is going to know you appreciate him/her if you say nothing and just wait like a bump on the log or a hopeful Cinderella behind a door? Be your own champion or magic godmother and GET OUT THERE! Make the first move and talk to someone in a friendly, not morbid, way. Everyone likes attention...to himself/herself...and will most likely come back for more. If someone at home is griping or sulking about your concerns with…

Life is beauty; admire it.
Life is bliss; taste it.
Life is a dream; realize it.
Life is a challenge; meet it.
Life is an opportunity; benefit from it.
Life is a duty; complete it.
Life is a game; play it.
Life is a promise; fulfill it.
Life is sorrow; overcome it.
Life is a song; sing it!

JIM. Didn't we have a class in something together?
LAURA. Yes, we did.
JIM. What class was that?
LAURA. It was--singing--Chorus!
JIM. Aw!
LAURA. I sat across the aisle from you in the Aud.
JIM. Aw.
LAURA. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
JIM. Now I remember--you always came in late.
LAURA. Yes, it was so hard for me, getting upstairs. I had that brace on my leg--it clumped so loud!
JIM.…

Just found out today that an elderly relative on my father's family tree had diabetes like my grandfather did. Since they say alopecia is related to the genes for diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis, I am getting closer to suspecting which side of the family to "blame!"

What does this mean for you? What weight do you put on all the other aspects of your life, and which ones give you your personal sense of success, comfort, pride, and satisfaction? Some of us have trouble trying to find balance, especially after mishaps in choices. The immediate reaction to hair loss can also take one's mind off the bigger picture. In this time of economic changes, what thoughts are on your mind about what you really need in life? Please tell an unbalanced Libra (me!) how one…

Time for a change or affirmation of your positive traits? New year's Resolution time coming up! I used to tear up the ending-year's calendar into tiny bits, then toss them up as confetti at midnight when ushering in a new year...when I wanted to GET RID OF a bad year, mentally. Nowadays, I have more calendar entries I DO want to keep...but it is an idea that may fit some of you.
My resolutions include being open to mystery and spirituality, taking control of my OWN life (not lives of…
